Hi everyone,
Newbie here, we are going to replace a crappy prefab fireplace with something nicer that actually makes heat.
Our research has lead us to either the Stuv 30 compact or the Heartstone Bari.

How can we make our final choice? Any good / bad testimonies from owners?
Thanks!

Well someone will ask these questions.

How big of space are you heating and are you wanting to use it supplemental or heating 24/7 with it.

Personally, I know those look great but I would want something that would take an 18” split and burn 8 hours.

Where will you get your wood? Firewood takes minimum two summers split and stacked to be able to burn.

There are lots of good modern looking stoves that are I would choose over those. I haven’t heard much about the bari and zilch about the stuv

All good questions.
It's for a roughly 900 sqf space, well insulated, for supplemental heating. We picked those stoves based on a proper heating load calc.
Most other stoves we looked at would simply be too powerful for our space.

The wood I'm getting is usually 16" anyway, and I already have a provider and rotation system in place. The wood for the coming winter was bought seasoned, and has been drying outside for 2 more years already.

Definitely curious to hear about other recommendations you might have. I'd love something that burns for 8 hours, but everything i've found would simply be making too much heat.

Blaze king boxer might be the only other modern low output stove.

The Aspen C3 would be worth checking out. If I had to choose between two I’d choose the bari.

Did you know the Bari doesn’t have replaceable glass? You have to purchase the glass along with the new door frame. It was like $1500 if I remember right! No thanks

Thanks, i love the look of the boxer
It’s a thermostatic catalytic stove. Won’t be much flame at minimum output but it would. Burn for 20 hours. It’s a well made stove with a proven design. I’d take the boxer over the bari if I was wanting heat. Wanting to look at something neat the Bari still wins.
I did not know that! Not good.

I’d roll the dice and load carefully. I would not have any fireplace tools. Only gloves. (I have too many kids that would use them as swords so gloves are all I use anyway) It’s a conversation piece.
