I don't look at stove top temps; I reload when I need more heat than the stove is providing.
This is not the same every time because in cold weather that's at a higher temperature than in warmer weather.

Same here. Reload is dependent on room temp requirement.

Sometimes I may load a couple splits of dense woods an a well burning fire. This would be when it's nasty cold out and more heat is needed.

Yup same as above comments.
A good fire has my jotul f400 top running at around 575F. in the middle of the middle.
Measured Temps drop quite a bit as you get out away from the middle.

Room temp and amount of coals left so that I don't need to light a atch to get going again.

When do you reload ??
When the stove is no longer putting out enough heat. Or it's time for bed or time to go to work and the current load won't last through. It never has anything to do with stt.

It's more about the stage of the fire than the stt.

Sometimes I glance at my stove top temp before reloading and I kind a know if it’s below 150 I may not have enough coals for a relight without adding some kindling or a fire starter. Above 150 there always seems to be plenty of coals for relights.

Reload temp is completely up to you in terms of what you need. I don't think there is a low end limit but most here like to do it before they lose coals that allow for a restart. I would say that while I can pull off a hot reload with STT around 500 Id be very cautious about getting my air turned down quick to avoid an overfire (with overfire temps varying based on your stove).

My STT might be low mainly because I've got the air cut back. Before reloading I'll open the air and let the fire get hot so the STT will rise at the point just before reloading. The reload is because the box is low on wood usually after 8-12 hours since last reload.

I looked at the SST for the first time this year but that was because I was cooking a turkey breast on the stove. This was using a crock pot on the trivet top as a slow cooker.
