I can tell pheasant cut wood from twenty feet away. All of those pin feathers snagged on the bark. Looks like the wood has whiskers.
If we have a cold winter, is this due to global warming. My acorns are dropping like nuts. But just to be on the safe side I ordered chains for plowing this winter.
I know here in NH maples and birch are showing some yellowing and color change. In an epiphany many years ago as I was observing a prodigous crop of fruit on the wild cherries in our area and pondering what that meant about the upcoming winter, it occurred to me that it meant absolutely nothing about the upcoming winter. It had everything to do with the fact that we had had absolutley perfect conditions for growing cherries that year. Mother nature doesn't give a damn frankly. She'll give you horrible conditions to survive in and then stomp your head in just as soon as help you prepare for her capricious ways. A great cherry crop meant nothing long term. If the conditons were favorable next winter and spring, there would be a great crop of new cherry trees. If not, all that fruit was for naught. Here in NH, its been really dry for the last 4-5 weeks and the trees are starting to show signs of it by shedding some of their leaves to protect themsleves best they can. Probably the case in your neck of the woods to. As for winter? The only accurate forecasts are in hindsight.EatenByLimestone said:

J/k...An intersting discussion...just like the one on castings and how they retained to the hearth.
Seeing as it quickly "got sanitized in the interest of maintaining a warm fuzzy feeiling" I decided the gloves needed to come off.
I think we need an intermediate room for topics that border somewhere between though.
How about the "Ash Pan"??? "For those embers that might still be useable".
Whether or not we are in for such and such a winter does relate to wood burning though.

LOL. That's the way we describe deer. Fortunately the squirrels haven't made it into our community yet. Though I did see my first one below the bird feeder this year.
Squirrels are cute. I don't too many anymore. I had a red tailed hawk set up home nearby and I think he's living off of them.

The National Weather cannot predict the weather a week ahead.What makes anyone think they can predict months ahead?.......Heck....I bet our local weather people would have a hard time telling us what the weather was yesterday.

Hello all, I am hoping for a nice and cool winter. The kind where everyone needs to run their pellet stove on setting #3.

On the other question - so far I would say that I'm not getting an unusually high amount of leaves and such in the pool for this time of year. (It's my way of telling since I have to clean the skimmer basket every day or so...)
