Now that you've pointed that out I do see the two upper clean out covers and the lower clean out IS centered. I guess the only information I really need is the height and width of the lower clean out opening under the cover.

I'm so sorry. This completely slipped my mind. My stove is running right now and I'll try to measure the opening later on when it warms up enough to shut the stove off.

Didn't even notice you could see the other two clean outs - good eye!

For anyone else here wanting to add the 3rd lower clean out to a pre 2007 Prescott EXL, I got the dimensions of the cover plate. I was told it is 5 1/2 x 2 3/8, made of 16 ga. black steel sheet metal, the screw holes are centered vertically at 1 3/16 and are 3/16 in from each (right and left) edge and hole size is 3/16 in diameter. Thanks to TimfromMA's pic in post #22 you can apply this info to the pic and see what the cover plate should be. Thanks Tim!

Thanks for sharing the info for the next person who is looking for it.

Note this is the cover plate dimensions. The opening would need to be smaller. Not sure how much, but obviously there is overlap so the cover plate blocks it off.

This is where all the math from school comes into play. Let's see, you need room for the screw holes on the sides, plus what, 1/8-1/4 inch to the side of the plate (don't forget to subtract probably 1/4-1/2 inch to side of hole in the back of the stove itself). They height can probably come in prtty close - 1/8" or so smaller than the plate. Of course, I'm no metal worker, so don't know how well you can keep dimensions while cutting thru that plate, so maybe even start with a smaller hole than what you figure you could do on paper.

You really only need enough room to get the scraper, or a bottle brush in. If I remember correctly, I could get the very tip of the crevice tool from my vacuum in to suck out loos stuff - but not actually move it around.

Yes, it would be nice to know what the factory opening size is. Thought I'd center punch 4 places 1/8" inside the top and sides of the location of the corners, drill 1/4" holes and connect the edges of the holes with a cut off wheel on a grinder....if I can get it in there. Need the opening size to begin though.

Bump anyone? Could sure use the opening size of the lower, 3rd clean out on a Greenfield, Lancaster, Prescott EX or EXL, Afton Bay, Auburn, Element M-F. The one behind the ash pan. I'm told they are all the same size. Here is a drawing of the cover plate just for reference:

FishHarder - you are showing the 2 main cleanouts. there is a 3rd one behind the ash can (or MAY be, don't know about the earlier stoves).

FishHarder: Thanks for the pics! Post #22 has a pic I am showing below (thanks to TimfromMA), taken from the front of the stove and way down low under the burn area in the ash drop area. It clearly shows the lower cover and the 2 screws holding it in right in the middle. It is the opening under this cover held on by 2 screws I need the measurements on (height and width of opening). This lower cover is down below the burn pot area and under it, and in the back of the ash area. I appreciate the help.

Just to give an idea of where the location is, take another look at the pic. If you look at the upper most corner on the right and left you can see a small part of the two upper clean out covers by looking up from underneath. (You have to look closely, the one on the right has a darker purple tent color than the one on the left which is kind of a light brown with spots. Those are two clean out covers up in the burn area.) The false brick panels have been removed in the upper burn area in this pic so the two upper clean out covers can be seen.

I looked up the cover plate for the Prescott EXL in a parts list online and it showed the same one being used on several St. Croix pellet stoves (Greenfield, Lancaster, Prescott EX or EXL, Afton Bay, Auburn, Element M-F), so that is what I am going by to assume these stoves all have the 3rd lower clean out behind the ash pan if they were made in 2007 or later. Honestly, I don't recognize these areas in your pics on my stove and am wondering if your Afton is built differently than mine. I am guessing it still has the 3rd clean out though, they do have and sell the same cover for it as for my Prescott.
