Splitter air vent and oil leak

I have a 12 ton earth quake cheap model. Bought it for 300.00 used. I need to know if you leave the vent open when running unit or close it. Also on the back, near where you make it go back and forth there is a leak when you send the ram all the way back and it stops on its own. There is a silver cap and it leaks by it. It is held on by two allen screws, no gasket. Is it a easy fix or should I just get use to the drip of oil. Thanks

Open the screw. With the pressure released, you leak may stop. If it doesn't, depending on the size of the leak, I would probably ignore it.

Vent should be open in use. Sounds like the spool valve is leaking. Probably just needs a new O-ring.

Would replacing the O ring be a big deal or will it be an easy fix. I have tried to work on things before, shocks on my jeep, Every one said Oh just an hour job. Three hours later I got it done with a crescent wrench. The nuts were metric, didn't have the right size. I hate tearing in to things I haven't done before.Thanks

It might be worthwhile to buy a set of metric wrenches and sockets. As you have seen, crescent wrenches can make your life a bit more difficult than it needs to be.

I have the same model, and it is leaking in the same spot you mentioned. I haven't tried replacing the o-ring yet. I also was told that the air vent should remain open during use. Have you had problems with the auto return? Mine will start returning after pushing the lever all the way back, but then stops like half way. PITA

Twitch, My will go back all the way and shut off when it is to be. The leak must be part of that model, I know more people with the same problem.
