I burn one fire a day once temps are in the 40's overnight, then I let my furnace do the lifting. Had a 96% furnace installed by my daughters finance who is an HVAC Contractor.. My highest gas bill (NG) this winter was $70 and the furnace is ready all the time. If the stove goes cold the furnace picks up the rest.

I burned a small fire last night.. ill have one tonigh its going to be in the 30s.. but after this... its looking like a fire here and there.. the end came up pretty quick..

You guys obviously have back up heat. Yes my Harmon is on low and stays that way until I crank it up. Maybe it's an old fart thing but I'm thin, not much body fat and like to stay warm so this baby runs til late May maybe June. Drives wife nuts. Hell, I cut it, split it, stack it, bring it in, I'll be damned if I'm gonna shiver

glad to see the WA guys (highbeam and begreen) burning like that. makes me not feel too bad.

this year i burned from mid oct and it's looking like we'll get a break this upcoming weekend (mid march). burn has generally been full load at night before bed and in the morning. then my wife nurses it through the day (split here, split there). once it gets >45F outside, it's fine to not feed the rest of the day until the late evening. goal is to keep all rooms in our daylight basement house at 66F, minimum at night. my daughter's room is 70-71 when we close her door and will drop a few degrees (if any) depending on the intensity of the burn at night.

Supposed to be in the 20's some nights this weekend and only 30's during the day the coming week. Looks like I'll be burning for a little bit longer.

Mine did go cold for a couple of days, then mother nature reared her ugly head again, and I'm back to burning.

the temps keep fluctuating in the 50's and the 30's for high's so the stoves keep getting some use. I carried wood to fill the garage again today 56 today's high, 39 for the next two days stoves will be doing their thing still.

I'll probably extend my burning season a bit this year because I now have a much more aggressive hot water heating setup (forcing water through the sidearm with thermostat-controlled pumps instead of just letting gravity do it) so it's much nicer having near-infinite hot water instead of paying 11¢/kwh to heat it.

I'm back to 24 hour burning now that temps dropped, highs in the 30F range. We also got 8" snow in the last 24 hours and it's still snowing. Just when we thought winter was over....

I usually have at least 1 fire any time the nightime temps get into the 50's For me, that's every day in March, many of the days in April, and a few in May.
