Been seeing some of you guys beginning to shut down for the season. My first year so I'm holding on as I can as I've got used to the nice warmth. 60 outside today , windows open and Snow on the Ground. Only in New England. Turned it on about 5 this evening when it got to 54 outside. Boy thats cold. Still have over a Ton left. (Didnt get started till Xmas due to Chimney Liner issues).
I have got quite good at cleaning the stove out.(I think). I would like to give it a really good going over as some of you do, but I apparently still have to get the Dealer come round to give it an annual service to keep the Warranty.
Just how much do they do. The Harman Manual shows annual cleaning.Does it depend on the Dealer or is it a standard look at.

Also just wondering with the cleaning. The Heat Exchanger Covers , Flame Guide and Center Medalion. Can you Pressure Wash them. Does it make a difference.

Springs here soon. Baseball has started.

ah yes..SPRING is here..my basement is flooding as usual and the yard is a sopping mess from all the snow melting alongside the torrential rainfall we just had....the streams are a flooding...
ah yes..
SPRING IS HERE..yea

I just read my warranty. Unless I missed it, I did not see where an annual cleaning by the dealer is required to keep the warranty in force. I guess ask the dealer about his having to clean it for warranty.

Might not be a bad idea to watch someone who cleans your particular model stove for a living. You would pick up some ideas on how to make your routine cleaning easier, and maybe you might find you are missing something when you clean your stove.

I don't know the answers to your question about pressure washing. I don't plan on doing that. I was planning on just doing the best job I can cleaning with wire brushes, chisels, and vacuum. It's too bad one of the really knowledgeable people don't come up with a detailed operations, routine cleaning, annual cleaning, troubleshooting and maintenance guide. I would buy it if it were available and done reasonably well (I know it would not be perfect). A guide like that could be used as a supplement to Harman's. Just wishful thinking.

We were still running our stoves in May, 2008. Do not jump the gun just yet.

Well when I said Soon, I meant June- July. New England.......

FA says chilly spring, I plan on keeping my stove ready to burn till Late May early June. Nights will have to be in the upper 50's low 60's before I'd feel safe.

As pkitfox said, I don't believe Harmon requires the cleaning for the warranty unless things have changed. Really good idea to watch the tech do the cleaning. I tried about two years ago to get a service manual but was told that they were only released to dealers. Good luck.

It is not required that you have a dealer do your cleaning to keep the warranty in effect. However, it's a good idea to have your dealer in sometime before your warranty expires just in case something needs attention. It is necessary to do the annual cleaning though so make sure you learn to do it properly. I always suggest that my customers who are thinking of doing the annual service on their own that they hire us the first time and look over our shoulder and ask questions. We are very helpful and don't hold back from teaching our customers how to clean their stoves. We can't get to everybody anyway so we think it makes sense to share as much as we can so that the customer can keep his or her stove in good shape. We recommend they call us in when they need more extensive work such as parts replacement or technical troubleshooting.

You can use a pressure washer if you want. Just make sure everything is completely dry before reassembly. It's overkill though. Just a good brushing and wipe down will be sufficient. Make sure to take out all the pellets and sawdust. Maybe keep some cat litter in the ash pan if you have a humid summer.
