A very unexpected and scary incident happened a few days ago. The Quardafire 1200 insert started shooting embers and smoke out the front blower tubes.
I immediately shut the stove down, as I was on the couch across from the stove. It continued to smoke, so I unplugged it, grabbed a dolly and rolled it out the front door.
Once outside I could see pellets that were actively burning under the stove, in the cavity that the blower motor feeds into. I poured water and was able to extinguish the pellets. Unfortunately it melted the plastic squirrel cages on the fan, so that will need to be replaced.
I am not sure how this happened, it’s hard to see in that vanity, even with the motor removed.
1) Could pellets have fallen down the tubes and collected, later igniting?
2) Some type of hole in the stove that is now dropping pellets in the cavity?
This stove has been nothing but unreliable, and is now a fire hazard to boot. Thankfully we have a wood stove and an oil boiler for heat.
