Quality One pellets

I have used several diffrent brands this year including michigans, eagle valley, spruce pointe, penningtons,lg's,lignetics,energex,napco,blazers,and just recently rocky mountain and not one of those brands had ZERO fines in it and they all had some dust, from your picture it just didnt seem like it was excesive. ;-)

ZERO fines would be a dream, we know that, but I've burned NEWP, Barefoot, Warm Front, others, others.....and never seen so much like with this one, so to me it looked VERY excessive....!!

I agree, The worst case was the Hamer's when they had bad batches. I had to return some Hamers almost half the bag was fines(saw dust). They had an issue with the binder or something! The pellets were falling apart in the bags. I think ACP and Maine Woods had simular issues with the pellets falling apart and the bags were full of saw dust!

Juanita's are not available by the bag from BT, So I called CTpellet. They don't have any either. So I'm on the hunt for the Juanita's. I think the place I found the Green teams had them. Have to give him a call!

BT was very busy when I finally got thru. I could here the phone ringing in the back ground. Debi said its the busiest she has seen in a while. They have the best prices for pellets right now! The only other place I might consider is cjspellets. They have the O'malleys for $255/ton. Can't get there till Saterday for those.

Not sure if you tried Dean's Stoves in Plainville. They carry NEWP and others but not sure what they are. Got 3 tons of NEWP coming from BT on Friday. From what I saw of their warehouse, they're a heavy hitter.

Well I called my brother in law. He has a Harmon and he's been burning the Juanita's all winter. He loves them. But he never tried the Barefoots or anything that I tried.

I stopped and got 2 bags from him to try. Got the stove cleaned and tossed in a bag. Just need to set the damper in a few minutes. The I will let it run for ½ hour and check the temps at the heat exchanger. Seem to be light in color, Not a lot of fines or dust in the bag. Most of the pellets are about 1 inch long. Some a little longer maybe 1 ½ inches.

If the weather stays like this I might get the ACP's tomorrow and dump some in the stove to get the heat temps.

OK, Here's the temp I got from them.

Barefoot 270°
Turmans 251°
Green Team 250°
Rocky Mountain 250°
Juanita’s 248°
Spruce Pt 248°
Dry Creek 246°
NEWP 245°
Michigan 241°
Premier 241°
Maine Wood 230°

Not as good as the Green Team's, But better then the NEWP's by a few degrees. Enough to make a big difference, I don't think so.

I just watched the weather, Look's like we will only have some morning burns for the next few days. With the temps in the low 70's and up. My house will be to warm for evening burns. I wont have enough time in the morning to test before work. Looks like it will be Saturday morning before I can try another pellet. "O'well" Still will try to get the ACP's and do them Saturday morning if possible.

thanks jay, now I wonder if better for me to get NEWP at $255 plus $100 delivery......or Greene Team Gold at $275 plus $75 delivery.

NEWP total for 3 tons = $865
GT total for 3 tons = $900

Wondering if worth spending the extra $35 and get the GT which gives more heat output.......

You could split the difference. Get 2 tons or the NEWP's for the warmer weather and Get 2 tons of the Green Teams for the COLD DAYS. See if it will save you more. Just a thought???

I do my own hauling for the most part. Saves me some money. I can pick and choose mine. I might get one ton delivered and stick it in the drive way and wrap the crap out of it. But for the most part I put 3 tons in the basement about this time of year and I hope the price stays low until I need or have room for the last ton.

Only you can make the final decision on the purchase, But if it was me I would at least get 1 ton of the hotest pellets I can get to have for the really cold weather.

Keep us posted as I will on the ACP's and O'Malleys.

I know, but that will increase the final total cost because the brands are offered by 2 different dealers and I'd need to pay delivery in both cases.

Went to BT after work and picked up 3 bags of ACP's, to try, after reading mixed reviews. I've been burning them for 2 hrs on different settings, I'm finding them burning fine in my stove, good heat output and I did not notice any smell when opening the bag as was reported in some reviews, ash seems maybe a little bit more than the NEWP that I burned over the winter. The funny thing is they seem to burn better on my lowest setting than NEWP, looks like a slower burn on low and has a higher flame. I have a lopi that also can burn corn, maybe that has something to do with me having a good burn. I may just jump on these the price is right. I'll keep you posted if I have any problems with the other 2 bags, but I have to shut in down now it's 86 degrees in here LOL

what about fines in the bag?

It ends up only being .23 cents more a bag...if you like them that much, are they worth it?

Thanks for the info, Seems worth it to go get some too! Were running out of time for sure. I ran my stove for about an hour tonight and the house got to 76. Had to shut it down too!

Please let us know if there are issues. and As geek asked, How were the fines in the bag. I hate paying for dust!

In my rush to try them I dump about 3/4 of the bag in the hopper with out checking for fines. I just poured the rest in a tupperware tote I would say the have more fines than NEWP but I will give you a better reading when I open the 2nd bag, the pellets them self are very dark in color

I picked up my 2 bags at lunch today(they are 10 minutes from me), Don't think I can test them with this temp we have. Maybe in the morning or Saturday.

I will post the temps for comparison. How much fines and dust t0o.

I had hoped for cooler weather, So I shut the stove thermostat off this morning. Its was a good thing, Otherwise the stove would have started around 1:30pm and would have had the house over 72º by the time I got home. I got home today and the house was only 68º. So I gave it a quick cleaning and dumped in the ACP's.

Took a photo of the fines and dust in the bag. No where near the Q one pellets geek purchased. Looks OK to me. About a table spoon full in the corner(hard to tell). Bag was only slightly dusty.

Also took a photo of the color. The pellets on the left are Turmans and on the right is the ACP's. Like flame thrower said very dark. Can you say bark??? sure looks like it to me.

Anyway, I have the stove set the same as the others and waiting for the temp to come up. I will post in a few.

I am disappointed with these pellets as far as the heat output. They are the worst pellets I have tested this year. My temp reading was a very low 220º. I really don't think these pellets are 8200 BTU's/lb.

Not sure I would buy them yet. I have to think about it for a little. Maybe as a starter or season finisher. But not the mid winter main heat pellet for sure.

I was hoping, But not what I expected. This is why I check the actual temp at the heat exchanger. It does not lie and is more accurate than the hand or feel method.

jtakeman if you think thats all the fines in your bag try sifting all 40# and see what your putting in your stove,I know nobody likes paying for dust but you will get it with every bag,but just because theres not alot in the bottom doesnt mean its not in there ,like I said earlier theres fines in every bag.You are right about the heat it was very poor when I tried them.I tried sifting atleast 2 bags from each brand I tried and there was always fines,some more than others but never 0.

He opened the front doors of the stoves and there was a lot of ash and flying ash, we also looked at the hoper and man, lots of fines mixed with the pellets. He had a temp reader at the heat exchange of the Harman and it was only reading just above 200 degrees. He was calling the ACP "crappy pellet".

With you, I wouldn't buy them..

mnkywrnch, I hear your opinion, ALL brands have fines, ones worst than others, but you could tell when you dump pellets in the hopper how much fines they have, I can tell by the dust.
I've seen brands where the fines were VERY minimal, you put your hand through the pellets in the hopper and it would come out almost clean.

I am hoping that the NEWP I ordered from BT are good to go.

Oh, BTW, I finished burning the bag of Napco and I wouldn't buy those either, lots of flying ash and the pellet size was larger than normal, just my opinion.

The Greene Team Gold Premium are also VERY dark but they burn great in my englander, I also like their smell.....so why does it make it so dark if the pellet is 100% hardwood?

I guess it could happen in the milling process. If they get to hot they may darken. I really don't know. Maybe one of the Pellet guys can jump in and give us the scoop.

I hope some experts can explain about the color a bit more than what I saw posted on pelletsales.

I have the feeling that very dark color is not always a bad thing, I put the Greene Team pellet for example, great burning brand and its color is very dark but has a good smell like real wood.
BTW, the Quality One is 'better' than the Napco, I burned the Napco last night and not only lots of dirty burn but hard clinkers, and the Napco is more expensive.

All in all, it looked like the Quality One would be a good option if it didn't have so much fines, price is good and I see no clinkers in the burn pot.

I just received some ACP's today. I don't see the dark coloring from an earlier post. Smell is good, length is as usual about 1/2" to 5/8". Too hot to burn today - but have had very good luck with them this winter.
