Quadrafire Classic Bay and clinkers

There's something behind those holes, doesn't appear to be in the holes so I don't think it's buildup. The igniter is in the front, here's a pic from the front with the plate removed, while running, holes appear all open ok.

Now, this morning I just turned the thermostat to on, let it run, so far no shut down, it's just running and running. Makes me think it's something with it just not starting on its own.

I also called the place where I baught the stove. They said it's almost certainly the thermostat, since I'm using a wireless thermostat that's not make by Quadrafire, not sure it this might be true or not. I Am going to try to wire up a std thermostat to test. But if the red light is on, calling for heat, I wouldn't think it's the thermostat. They also said they have seen nothing but problems with the Michigan Wood Furl pellets. To the point of them ruining stoves.

I went to Menard's, where I got the pellets, just to see if they happened yo have anything new. They have a bunch of Magic Spark, which I was told are made by Pro Pellet(I think). I picked up 5 bags, and if they work Menard's will exchange all my MWF for Magic Spark.

Airflow may be a contributing factor, but my CB1200 insert has ran for days in a much dirtier state then yours looks. I'll be very surprised if it is not the MWF pellets. Before loading the new pellets in,vac out as much of the MWF from your hopper.

All the thermostat does is complete a electrical circuit. Keep that in mind. I cant imagine a pellet "ruining" a stove especially with how the classic bay burns you could throw rocks in them and they would probably burn.

I agree with moey, the only pellet that gave me a hard time was PA Pellets many years back. Filthy pellet with a ton ash. Quad still burned them though. I find my stove very easy to work on when the need arises, just keep it clean. I don't think I've had a real clinker yet.

Also check your batteries on the tstat. See page 28 for other possibles on call light on w/o feed or ignitor....

Kind of what I thought about the thermostat.

As far as ruining stoves, the said stoves were having problems, there'd replace parts to fix it then still have other problems, etc. not sure though, maybe they just don't know what they are going?

I've heard that the Quad should burn anything, and from other stories I've heard these MWF pellets don't seem bad. But if it's not the pellets, then I'm at a loss as to what the issue is.

It runs fine when I start it up. It appears to run until the thermostat tells it to turn off, then it just never starts up again. But the light comes on calling for heat. Thus appears to be what happens anyway.

Check the batteries ... have seen this on another thread where batteries should have had enough juice but when the batteries were changed out to new, life was good again

Failing that, try the standard t-stat...

Just finished reading a thread where the tstat control box connection was loose on the back of the stove so the circuit was not closing ...

I just installed flooring and moved the stove, will definitly have to check this out when I get home

So after vacuumin out the hopper and the feed auger, then using Magicspark pellets instead of MWF, stove has been running almost 20 hours. Before it was down to maybe 20 minutes before shitting off. For the first 10 hours I had the thermostat set to On instead of Thermo, and even after switching to Thermo it may not have shut off more than the one time I lowered the temp to test it, but so far everything seems to be fixed.

Will keep an eye on it, but hoping for the best. Thank you everyone for all the help, love having this place as a resource when I have questions or problems.

Good to hear..

Ive had pellets bridge the opening before and cause problems..
