Smokey's right. Take off the six nuts and the whole thing will come out, bird and all. That's great that it's all working! Saved yourself some serious cash. As for the igniter, on my stove at least it shuts off when EITHER you hit the 600 degree (red light) OR the timer times out.
On the ash dump, remove the nut on the bottom of the pivot point and the whole plate should drop down. If it's rusted, you might need a BFH! Once you get it apart, put some Never-Sieze on the bolt and put the nut back on just far enough that the plate has no more clearance than the thickness of a dime on the side across from the pivot. In other words, it can hang down with a gap of no more than a dime's thickness.
