If my dog can't learn the stove is hot... dunno. He learned pretty fast not to get under tires after I ran him over with the lawn tractor a couple times. Learned to stay off the couch, that took some size 11 boot action though.

Before we renovated the living room we had an old generic brand woodstove that was about 18" from the wall. We also had a 6 month old chocolate lab..... Every time she was either in trouble or had something she shouldn't she would head for behind the stove. She never actually burnt herself but she sure did develop a couple of terrible looking singe patches in her shiny brown coat.

That is now all behind us. Here is about as close as she likes to get to the Super 27.

If the stove has a low clearance then I probable would not worry about it. If there is space like our old one then I'd block it off for the first winter.

our pets spend lots of time near the stove and we havent had any problems. im sure your pooch will love it.

Cute pic heatwise. It looks like the cat could eat the dog for lunch.

I've had a number of cats & dogs of various ages around a few woodstoves, and never had a problem. My cats would sometimes get up on a cabinet or shelf as close to the stove as they could get, and I was really worried that one day one of them would just jump over onto the stove :ahhh: . It's never happened. My experience tells me that animals can sense the heat and instinctively move to protect themselves. Not so with human children...that's where we all need to be careful. Rick

You just need to teach them to sit quietly on the couch like a respectable lady/gentleman. :)

Cute pup!

We don't have puppies anymore and when we did and had the stove going they knew enough what was going on not to learn "the hard way", they knew it was hot! Although they know what the stove is about in heating the home in the winter time both my boxers love the stove and gernerally choose to be no other place, right in front of the stove on their dog beds. The only story I can offer are when their toys roll under the stove, they will whine and sit and stare for hours if my wife and I don't get them out. I Can't report any dog injuries that are stove related...good luck!!
