elk, that soot is from the old glass fireplace doors. never cleaned it off. i was hoping it might disappear by itself.

People ask me why my backup hunting pistol is a Ruger Super Blackhawk. I ask them if they have ever been charged out of the brush by big ole pissed off hog.

I shot one in 2003 down in Texas on vacation, but with a 30-06. We use the pork mixed with venison for sausage. Then we fire up the grill for Beer & Deer.

A guy up the road used to raise them primarily breed stock, he had double fences about 8-10 ft high, enough space in between to drive a farm tractor to mow, the inner one was buried 2 ft deep and right in front had an electric line that had some crazy amount of juice flowing through it..When i used to run by there with dog it always amazed me the size of the rocks they turn up...he had one that was up around 250-300 lbs..the tusks where pretty nasty looking...he was telling me how they can really take lead too.

Had to throw that in there...sorry to hijack... tune in for the next episode of wild hearth when Jim goes home and finds "snakes in a wood stove"

Hey Warren, These guys beat you to it. Check out these vintage 1970's photo ads. The stoves are no longer produced, so I guess the chicks weren't all that effective at selling stoves. Maybe they should have tried bathing suits instead of winter clothing.

Not quite what I had in mind. More of the Stove installed in the sun room with the Hot tub (woodfired heater of course)...Dog curled up in front of the stove, the lovely basking in the hot tub with a tall glass of bubbly in her hand. That stove mfg would sell millions.

Hear is my pic. I actually just posted this on the forum page for pictures. I picked up the brick at a local brick yard and build it myself. I had to raise it off the floor using 2x4's and a plywood top. I then put cement board on that with a thick layer of cement then the brick.

After seeing how Harley's came out, and his beautiful hearth & floors, and it all matches the Feng Shei and cool decorations, then seeing others houses with their huge sprauling brick fireplaces, I've got an inferiority complex! I could only afford a 62 ranch with a standard brick fireplace. It's boring.

That's the one BB. Mine was a Bislee style (lowered hammer, staighter grip, you know the one). I think a .44 mag 185 grain soft tip alternated with a jacketed hollow point going supersonic should easily penetrate that tough cartilage shield they have on their chest for jousting one another. Good choice for a backup for sure. I was shooting that one solo. I thought it only fair to give the pig a sporting chance. I took him at 50 yards. The guide almost wet his pants. I guess he'd never hunted with an avid pistol shooter before. That was the last time he razzed me about hunting with a pistol.

Well, it was a good shot to be sure, but nothing really to write home about if you've ever watched an NRA Master qualified 3-gun Bullseye shooter. Some of those dudes can punch a double bull (the X inside the 10 ring) at 50 yards hitting only one or two 10 rings (missed the X inside it, but still hit the 10 ring) for the whole day.

I was a qualified indoor pistol .22 Marksman, but I could easily qualify Sharpshooter indoor or out if I had the urge. Any caliber. I try to keep my skills alive shooting pellets in the back yard. Keeps the squirrels and chipmonks down, too. Those monks are destroying my hill and my whole patio is starting to tilt south.

I'm get just as excited shooting pellets if I bag a squirrel, who's usually been chewing a hole in my cedar house or eating one of my few precious potted tomatoes up on the 2nd level deck for a few days, at 30 - 40 meters with my Beeman S1 800 fps spring-piston rifle and RWS 2 - 7 power scope. Even a rabbit is no problemo with that thing.

I also have one of the Beeman 450/600 fps spring-piston pistols with the Colt 1911 style packmyer grips to immitate my Gold Cup National Match. I love pistols. Have a few. Mostly autoloaders. Need to get out and shoot them more. Too bad you don't live closer by. I'll bet you like shotguns, too. I was just gifted a 12 guage Winchester Pigeon grade over and under 30 inch trap gun. Never been shot. Super nice. Even has a little tooling on the receiver. Makes a nice match for the Ruger Redhawk over/under 28 inch skeet gun my dad gave me before he died. Need to get out and shoot them more... and so on...

But I'll be hacking splits for quite some time...

Hey Dylan,

No kidding, one would think that's the case. I'm not a huge fan of the hearth as it's ridiculously oversized but that's how the house came when we bought it a few years ago. I could probably fit 3 stoves on the thing if I wanted to. My little Jotul does a great job at keeping the house toasty though and that's all that matters up here when winter 'really' hits.

Got to love working with real stone the Green encore is situated around fieldstone I selected from my lot when building the home

the Intrepid in the familly room built 8 years later is a combination of cobble stone take from the streets of Boston. I was doing a job there and they were digging up the street. I took home a couple pk truck loads and built the Intrepid stove setup the stone runs floor to ceiling I then used bluestone for the hearth. I tried to one piece it but came to my senses. I would have touble dealing with 1200 lbs
