Be careful my friend. Be careful. At my age standing on the porch is dangerous.
Which reminds me. Time to go up and sweep the chimney tomorrow. But I ain't even gonna climb up on top of it. 35' is a long way down.
Knowing we would be in this house for the rest of our lives, that is why we looked for a roof with a slope shallow enough that I can easily walk on it. The chimney as at the ridge, so you stand at the ridge and have littl risk of falling off even if you have to pull REALLY hard to get the brush back up.
Oh, I would never climb onto the crown of the chimney. Mine stick three feet out of the roof (waist high for me) and that is all the leverage I need to get my big box store stiff poly brush through my liner. If I had to climb onto the chimney, I wouldn't be cleaning my own chimney. But I still ain't crawling up on top of that chimney that is four feet higher than the roof
I'll let you know Tuesday Velvet when the sweep comes whether we turn it, burn it, yank it or spank it outta thereI wonder how this turned out?
I bet he/she/it just pushes it on down.
Alright, one of you guys had the winning idea for getting the brush outta the liner. That individual(s) is a winner, so he/she gets a chicken dinner.I'm a ding dong. Had a 6" SS liner installed in my masonry flue last year, went to clean it this weekend pushed the poly brush down about 3'. It won't come back up, I can't "reverse" the bristles. Too chicken to push it all the way down to deal with it at the tee, because its a really stiff brush and I'm afraid it will get stuck in the middle (no I didn't attached a rope). Tried to hook it, just pushed it down further. Any ideas to make a better hook?
Another idea I read about here was to replace the fiberglass rod with a threaded rod. Place a 2x4 with a hole in it over the rod against the chimney and thread a nut and washer against the 2x4 forcing the threaded rod up and hence the brush with it. They don't sell threaded rods that fit a 1/4 NPT.
Any other ideas?
well bholler I can tell you this he didn't light a fire so that idea won't get you dinnerlol so whose idea worked?
Now I thot BrotherBart idea of pushing it down and dealing with it at the tee was they way they'd, but unforunately we won't be giving a chicken dinner for that idea eitherGood i didnt think that was a good idea lol
my side saddle technique was never gonna git er done. Too chicken to climb the crown, hence my chicken dinner awardmy guy just Ninja'd up that roof and stood on crown. Bent his knees, took a solid grip.
Straightened those knees and came out faster than a wet cat. So Webby and BHoller, you are winners.
Come claim your chicken dinner
