I'm new to this wood burning stuff, but don't tree company's sell wood for extra income?

It all depends on where you are . Simple economics figure in, supply and demand and cost to process/store. The free wood seems to run in the more densely populated suburban areas.

Also, a lot of it has to do with the size of the operation you're dealing with. A small time guy may not have the area, time, or money to process the wood. For a guy like that its easier to just get rid of trees as he cuts them. Now a large scale business with a woodlot and the necessary manpower to run a firewood end of a tree business may be more likely to keep the wood

Believe me ... if I had the room, I'd have taken that second load of wood yesterday. 1/2 acre is a big lot in this area.

Even if it sits like that for 6 months it should be fine correct? Don't most wood lots just leave them in piles for,a,long period of time anyway?

The snow won't hurt the wood, it's just that it can be a little bit harder to deal with the wood when it's covered in snow or ice. With that little bit of snow it would have been real easy to just peal back the tarp and expose clean dry wood if he wanted to start processing it this weekend.
It's the same sort of thing as covering building lumber outside, you don't want have to dig your 2x4s out of the snow and scrape them off before you can start nailing them together. An ounce of prevention can sometimes make a job lot easier.

Looks like an old photo that he had on hand to represent what he has. I doubt he is delivering that exact wood.

You suck. Refuse free bucked up hardwood delivered to your front door and you get rewarded with seasoned wood dropped at front door. Do you crap gold too.
