Burning Hunk
i stacked it all in the front rows. (my stacks are 5 rows deep). I want to burn that pine first. Great shoulder season wood, and I don't like the sight of those bugs eating though the pine and leaving chips every where!!
Splits easy,light weight.hot fire,smells good,dries fast.Whats not to like?
To be honest most of the pine i burn is in the form of 100 yr old floor joists and wall studs. Very dry and yes it splits quite easily. This one:"Splits easy" because many pieces I had for sure did not. Or maybe I was just spoiled by the straight ash and maple I splitted before. And don't forget the pitch; that stuff sucks. It also takes up a lot of room in the yard for comparably very little BTU. But otherwise, pine is good and free wood is even better.

I was wondering about that. I was thinking what else does he have to burn! Im the same way with Spruce. That stuff is crazy light when dry!Sorry meant to say, I don't lift a finger for Spruce doh!
Thats the way it is for us in the Rockies of BC and most parts of the province. Since there is enough Lodgepole pine we dont have to mess with spruce if we dont want to. In fact we dont have to worry about being three years ahead either because it takes one season to dry and often we can be selective and take standing dead or blow downs that are close or below 20% mc when bucked up. In our area there is a small amount of white birch which is like gold to us but more plentiful is Larch which makes for good overnight burns.Isn't pine/spruce/fir the only option for burning in some areas? They seem to do well.

only thing bad about pine is the sap when bucking. get the saw really messy. what the best cleaning solution for pine sap?
There are many species of spruce, I have some that's light as a feather and I have some as heavy as hardwood when dried, I've been burning it this month. I have no idea what the different species are I just know there's tons of dead ones around here so I take what I can, wish I could get more of the heavy variety.huh, must be different species. i had a Norway Spruce taken down in my yard and it wasn't terribly light when dried. It was a 80 yr old tree, maybe that made a difference.

HELP I just watched that YouTube video and I need to get rid of all this oak from dead standing trees I cut this year.
