In my case, the goal is to reduce the amount of energy radiated directly from the stove to the wall. I don't mind the wall getting warm, as the entire stone fireplace gets warm and radiates for a day or three after the fire has gone out. However, I don't see any point in heating the stone directly behind the stove up to 220F, either. That's what was happening last year, and without measuring or calculating, I can say that's a lot of wasted BTU's!
