Don't have one yet. I'm watching the used market locally for a reasonably priced one. I did find a copy of the Atlanta stove company's Franklin stoves brochure, and they did have 3 different sizes, so I'm hoping I can find one of the small ones. I have spot I can set a stove up as an outdoor fire place for more immediate use, but would want to protect it from the elements a bit more, my instincts are against buying any stoves that have been sitting out side.
Those are easy to break down clean up and paint. So outside for a while isn't a big deal. And pretty much everything you find is going to be a cheap copy made in the late 70s early 80s.

Why not install a 6'' flue and shop used for a glass view stove? Your wood savings would appreciate it.

I have another thread running as to the "why' but short answer is that I'm primary looking for a metal open fire place
Ok then, Fisher, All Nighter, and a host of others have models with screen options. That Franklin will consume wood like no other. My friend had one.....

It’s going in a tiny house.

So looking around a bit, I have seen some seen some info on adding a 6" liner to an 8" class A chimney. Is this an option incase I down size the stove in the future? A modern airtight stove sized to a "tiny house" might use an even smaller pipe size than 6".

Why not find a very small zero clearance fireplace?

If I could find a modern version of the Franklin that would be great. My initial idea was to have something custom welded up, that would be significantly smaller than a cast iron Franklin.
I'd want to have something that I could do hearth cooking with. The Franklins are set up to take a pot crane and a swing out grill, and to a point burn with the doors open.
I just don't think that there's a modern equivalent out there

Maybe. I certainly don't think "big wood stove" is considering my needs as anything to do with their profit margins...
Who is "big wood stove"? Most of these companies are tiny........

Maybe "big wood stove" was told by its consumers that they don't want inefficient stoves with 3 foot clearances.
