Jaoneill do you run 50:1 in your Jreds?

40 to 1 works good. Seems like everyone has there own preference.

I’m not very good at that so I don’t want to say. When I got my saw they just adjusted it at the shop and I never had to adjust it even switching from 50 to 1 to 40 to 1

Yeah okay I feel the same way. I’ve adjusted the idle on one of my stihls when it was “lumpy” but other than that I have no experience. I’ll probably just stick with running 50:1

I feel that one should always err on the side of caution when it comes to lubrication, I run 40:1and when it gets buggy in the woods I'll dribble a bit extra in to generate a smokescreen.

I may try that and see how the saw runs. I need to get a fresh load of logs to cut on, or head up to Maine and finish cutting up some of the monster pines that we dropped when clearing land for a new camp, haha.

Oh, and I ordered this from Bailey's. I had never seen one but my saw didn't come with a scabbard and I came across it when searching for one online. Pretty cool invention, heavy duty canvas with a plastic type coating on the inside and a tool pouch at the end with velcro enclosure for files, etc. I like it. I may order more for my other saws.

Finally got a chance to run two tanks worth of gas through it. Cut a cords worth of maple, white oak and red oak. Saw ran good, what a difference 20cc more makes.

And of course there was an old eyebolt in one of the logs. That was a fun discovery. You have to ask yourself what the odds are of choosing the three inch area that has that in it in the entire 16 foot log. Whatever.

Have run 5 tanks through the 2166 at this point and I'm very happy with it. It came with a Carlton chain that rips when sharp but seems to dull easily if any contact with dirt is made. I have taken to touching up the chain after every tank of gas, and trying to be more careful about not touching the ground at all. It absolutely eats through wood when sharp though, very happy with this purchase so far and I would recommend to anyone looking for a 70cc. If you can find them on ebay they are a great deal.

I definitely am. I've been extra cautious when using it due to the increased power and 24" bar, though I did order a 20" bar and chain for it too. I've been getting smaller wood the last couple deliveries so I may switch to that set up and just use the 24" when I need it for the bigger stuff. It's just a faster cutter than my other saws.

Just wait until you put a 20" bar on it! I have an older Pioneer P60 that came stock with a 36" bar. I used it for 20 years with a 20" bar and it was an absolute wood eatin' animal (I used to file the rakers down to nubs). Downsizing to 20" will probably gain you almost as much as that extra 20cc's did.

I'll have to make the switch, that 20" bar runs a .050 chain instead of the .058 too. Not sure if that makes any difference in cutting but I've never run that before.

Reviving this thread to say that since 2019 I've been running .050 gauge chain on a 20" bar on this saw and it rips as a firewood saw. Very fast through medium sized wood. It feels like a fat pig to pick up after using a 261 for a while but it's got gobs of power compared to that saw. It's smooth and I like having it around for bigger wood. I also have a 24" bar but I only run that if I need to.

I have a jonsered 2172. Pretty much the same thing but a little more power. I have a 20" and 24" bar for it. The 24" stays on it most of the time. I don't use it that much. I use my husky 550xp with 18" and dolmar 421 16" most of the time. That jonserd is a great saw. I prefer the straight handle vs the angle husky. And when the stuff gets real big, the 395xp 32" comes out. My father in law cuts timber. That all he uses is the jonsered2172/redmax7000. He has some others or. Jonsered 2188. Other echos and husky. The jonsereda hold up very well for him. He had a 2172 that was 3 years old and was using it full time before he could tell it was getting a little weak and I put a new top end on I for him. The key thing is using good gas and good oil.
