Well, used the open-door process over the holiday weekend (4-1/2 days except too warm for most of Sunday), pulled the excess down into the ash pan about once per day, worked great! Thanks, all. Turns out my wife had one of those "Ove Glove" mitts in the kitchen, I wore it just to be safe.
