I have both detectors.

Fire prevention folks recommend having the dual smoke sensors, that have both ionization and photoelectric sensors, to better detect both the low smoldering type fires as well as the high flame fast spreading fires. They are inexpensive at about $35 or so.

Unfortunately, they don't yet make a dual sensor smoke / fire alarm that also has a CO sensor, so you need to buy a separate CO detector - about $20 or so.
Don't forget a fire extinguisher as well, located not too close to the stove that you have to run into the smoky room to find it in order to fight the fire with it !

State of Maine had 25 fire related deaths in 2014, the deadliest in over 20 years, with the State Fire Marshal relating that all but 2 of the fatalities involved having no detectors or improperly maintained ones, ie no batteries.

$55 investment, versus the cost of lives needlessly lost.......

Provincial law in new construction for permanently wired smoke detectors ... but it is good to have both. Family of 4 died couple of years ago relying on a permanent wired that went down due to a electrical fire One set of ours is interlinked - one triggers the second one - in the stove room and upstairs where kids bedrooms are.

It's here! My stove arrived this morning at 0845 and I'm so happy and warm. The two installers poured a bag of pellets into the hopper and set it to automatic temp around 76. He then turned the fan to high to burn off the new scent of the stove.

My wonderful heat is felt throughout my rancher. The thermostat in the livingroom hallway is reading 81 degrees. I turned the house thermostat down to 55 degrees.

I'm going to let the pellets burn completely out because the township inspector will be out tomorrow to inspect my new stove. Also, I was given a DVD to help me get aquainted with my stove. I want to thank everyone for enlightening me with your knowledge. Everyone stay warm!

Congrats and nice choice! You will love your new found heat. There are many 52i peeps here with great experience so take note of their recommendations when you need to clean and stuff. Many with a wealth of info all about pellet stoves and practices of the art. Remember to unplug if you get to messing around with it.

My new stove heats my house extremely well. But, I've noticed in automatic the blower NEVER has stopped. The installer placed the ESP under the stove and I did move it out to see if that was the problem and still no change. I know its 76 + degrees here in the room where the accentra is. And yes, I read the complete manual.

That's your room sensing probe. The ESP is internal and in your exhaust. You need to experiment with it for a good location also.

Search for some threads here on Harman room sensor placement and such. I have seen a bunch of discussion here on this very topic. You'll likely find some good tips.
Many I see say place it up about 5 feet up and away from cold areas or drafty places. EX: Away from windows and such. I have mine right up on the wall behind my stove about 5' up and a couple of feet to the side. It is very accurate there.

Others do leave it looped behind the stove and use it to sense the return air. Every situation is different and you'll need to figure out your best placement. Some have tied them onto a chair and stuff. All kinds of options. I am not thrilled about seeing mine up on the wall but it works well so I'll deal with it.

If you flip the little switch from auto to manual the fans will cycle on and off giving you a more accurate temp but don't forget to flip it back to auto when lighting the stove or the igniter will not function

Thanks so much! Finally, the fan has stopped. I have the sensory probe as you've done up the wall behind my stove. Thank you so much. I didn't read that in the manual and the installer had it looped under the stove.

Your new and there is a lot to learn yet. I call the first ton of pellets the training wheels ton. I was there not long ago and am still learning. Read up a bunch here and participate. You will have to read it and digest then re-read more than a couple of times. Things are simple but can be a bit confusing at times.
