Had a high of 10 so I went out to blow the snow we got yesterday. Had skidsteer pluged in for 7hr and hit it with some starter fluid. Had to put the charger on to get alittle more juice and hit it again. Took off and ran it for a few minutes to warm up the hyd fluid. Started down the drive and lost power. Water froze in the fuel filter so after 2hr's working on that I finally got it started and finished. Glad I had a warm boiler room to take the filter to and thaw things out (like my hands).

Good news is house was 86* warmer than outside this AM .Bad news was it was -30 outside. Guess I better get moving on a better boiler or more insulation next year.

not jebatty temps but the weather station in my yard 1420ft elev recorded for the last 24hr period 51 heating degree days, the lowest temp with chill was -21degf at 7:03am.The btu meter that recieves input from the supply and return rack showed a 880,000btu consumption for that time preiod.

Zero F right now, without factoring in wind chill, and I am spending the afternoon under the hood of my truck (in unheated space) dealing with an alternator that decided to stop working Friday evening. Came in to thaw out for a moment... Forecast for 29 below tonight.

23 below zero overnight-- and I'd borrowed a 2009 Honda since the alternator on the truck remained intractable. 2009 Honda refused to start, and its battery quit being able to even crank the engine after about three very brief tries-- the solenoid kept chirping on and off but it wouldn't actually spin. Wish I'd plugged the old diesel truck's block heater in, as I could've made it to work and back in that just off of the fully topped-off batteries, as long as it was during daylight and I didn't need headlights.

The good news-- the Econoburn kept the house warm

Great fun, right Trevor? Do vehicles always chose the worst days of the year to do these things, or are those the only ones we remember?
My 150 also did a great job last night, and watching it crank out the heat, I found out that at -15 idling doesn't happen much at all %-P
Heaterman; were any of those calls asking if you could install a Garn by the end of the day? :lol: (and I bet you could ;-) )

No Garn's involved in the mayhem that was Sunday and today doing mop up. (mop up being a literal term)

We had a dairy barn with no heat start the day off 5:20AM Sunday at -25*F. Fried circuit board and of course I didn't have one. Called every emergency and after hours distributor number
I have in my file and none available within 100+ miles. Rigged up a couple LP gas fired heaters for temporary use and had one of the boys drive to get part today. Fired him up at 5PM today with no broken pipes.
Had 4 calls for inadequate heat from furnaces which were all plugged air filters making the high limit trip the burner off (good grief people.......) 2 furnaces with failed ignitors, (one house completely froze up) one Munchkin gas boiler with condensate drain plugged up, 1 heatsource OWB with a failed combustion fan motor, 1 wood boiler (old Menominee) system with a failed zone valve (8043 series Honeywell naturally) One call for inadequate heat on a 6,000 sq ft building with infloor being driven by a CB 6048 (thermostatic mix valve set at 86* water temp ain't gonna cut it at -25), failed blower motor on a downflow gas furnace that is so old I think the Pilgrims bought it second hand, and finally a failed circ on the heat exchanger loop for a hot tub (lines under the deck froze solid) Put over 400 miles on the truck since yesterday morning..........
Time to hit the rack.
