I hear the I&O are great splitters but I've never seen one except via images online. Looking at the specs they're really not that much better than Speeco's specs but they demand a much higher price. Here's some points that I see...

* It looks like the I&O engine is an upgrade over the Speecos.
* The I&O has a smaller dimensioned beam and uses a clamp on wedge (good/bad?...apparently most manufacturers use this style).
* The I&O has no built-in log-dislodger ($85 extra).
* It looks like the I&O has a larger hydraulic fluid reservoir.
* The I&O outweighs a Speeco 25-ton unit (couldn't find a weight for their 22-ton) by 50 pounds...and the 25-ton Speeco has a 4.5" cyclinder compared to I&O's 4" cylinder...I state this to show that the I&O's heavier weight must be in framing, beam, fenders, etc.,.

Anyhow, somebody want to point out the key difference that make such a difference in price?

Thanks!
Ed

ETA: To clarify: I was looking at the 22-ton models except where I had to use the weight of the 25-ton Speeco.

Still searching and considering building one.
I did find this whats the catch?
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=775745

sounds too good to be true?
I may be overlooking something but I think you need to note the footnote where it says they will add a ~$300 extra charge on because it is a large/bulky item. That is in addition to the normal freight charges. The 22-ton unit could actually end up costing twice the listed price depending on how far you are from the shipping point.

It looks like you gotta give them a credit card number before you can actually find out the shipping and "handling" fees. >:(

Ed

looks like $300 + $29.95 for shipping.
Still looks like a hell of a deal.

Looks like you may be right. From what I looked at the charge for the over $250.01 purchase is only $19.95...

I sent an email to them for an itemized, total cost for the 28-ton unit just to see what it would be.

Ed

I would be interested in what they come up with Ed.

I wonder if you can pick stuff up, or have someone else and ship it more cheaply?

S

They have a retail store in MN.

2 tons of tiles would have cost $600, I wonder if they match their internet prices in their store?

Here ya go, bfunk13...

Where in WY are you? Murdochs / Big R have some good deals sometimes, or Lowes / Home Depot if you can get a clearance model might be an option.

That added up quick Ed. Thanks for the info!

Moose, we are in Rawlins. 100 miles from a murdochs, 140 from a Lowes or HD.
I have looked into the HD and Lowes splitters online, but would like to see one in person.
Thanks for the replies!

Ah - Rawlins! You really don't need a splitter, just a set a wedge on the east end of the yard and the wind will do the rest... Passed through there last week and probably heading out there again on Thursday.

It might be worth it to check the Ft Collins CL. They seem to have more than WY for choices.

Found this one - over budget but you never know.

Yeah no kidding about the wind! Sucks!
I found a few on Craigs and KSL classified, they are pretty proud of their stuff it seems.
