Hey everyone,

I recently discovered that the outlet under my wood-burning fireplace (Superior WCT2036WSI) has no power. The builders installed the outlet when they built my house, but after testing it with a voltage tester and reviewing photos from the construction phase, I can confirm that no wiring (Romex) was ever run to it. Unfortunately, I didn’t catch this during the build process.

I want to retrofit power to this outlet so I can install a blower and improve heat distribution throughout my home. My goal is to maximize the efficiency of my fireplace and save on heating costs by circulating warm air more effectively.

What I Know So Far:

  • The outlet is installed but completely unwired.
  • There is no Romex leading to it (confirmed by construction photos).
  • I have checked nearby breakers and outlets—this isn’t a GFCI or tripped breaker issue.
  • The fireplace is already built in and finished, so I need a way to retrofit power without major demolition.

What I Need Help With:

I have the tools and electrical skills to safely run a new wire, but I need advice on the best way to access the outlet box under the firebrick and the cleanest way to route power to it.

Disassembly Advice – What’s the best way to remove the firebrick/refractory panels to get to the outlet box? Are there clips or brackets I should watch out for?

I’d appreciate any insights from those who have dealt with similar issues. Thanks in advance!

Normally this is hard-wired, not a plugin situation. An outlet can not be place in a concealed, unaccessible location.
