I would think the first thing is to call the company that made the parts and see if a revised part. I would wonder if non combustible or if a certain R value needed. Last I knew cement board is non combustible but there are different levels of that so the instructions poorly done too by not mentioning that or if it has been omitted from the description of the problem.dd,
I think that 's a good idea - something to really consider. I was hoping for a solution easier than a nearly complete reinstallation minus setting the stove and cutting the roof / flashing part. I am not sure if this would fly, but it seems like it would work.
Would this restore it to a safe and clearance to combustibles compliant installation?
Called duravent tech support in CA (closed today) and then their tech support number in NY. Left messages at both. NY branch may be closed for holiday as well. Will post what I find out.Their support is pretty good. Let us know what they say.
Not at all. The drywall and plaster are 2" too close to this box. It really needs to be fixed, although it likely won't cause any problems. But, if there ever was an issue...Is this dual wall coming out to the stove or single wall. If single wall does a 1 foot section of dual wall/Duravent plus fix the problem?
So I need to remove the storm collar, disconnect and pull the class A sections, remove the attic insul shield, drop the telescoping dvl and trim plate, remove rcs box, enlarge the hole in the ceiling, lower the support box 0.75 in. .....and then reinstall everything. ....correct?Not at all. The drywall and plaster are 2" too close to this box. It really needs to be fixed, although it likely won't cause any problems. But, if there ever was an issue...
I really feel like their documentation and specifications are outlined pretty well. A qualified installer or competent DIYer shouldn't have much trouble. Every 6" ceiling support box I've done requires a 12" cutout minimum. Maybe it was their first? Thanks for the update. It would be great for DuraVent to document this more precisely.
We also use the square box most of the time. It always works, the round box can't be used in some situations.I think it was their first install using the round support box. They use the square box routinely. I got the impression they weren't into reading any installation guides, so it probably didn't matter how precisely it was written for this install.
