After cutting up 3 cords of wood and running 3 or 4 tanks of gas through it my new saw seems to be running better. Is this normal break-in stuff or am I high?

You're funny, BR! :coolhmm:

Both! :cheese:

All of the Poulans are that way.

Getting a whole "CORD" per tank..... High... Or at least Semi-High. Is that just bucking?? Or Felling, Limbing, and Bucking???

Just bucking - the score I'm working on is 7 topped Doug Firs

When do you plan on telling us what you got? I have made up my mind that it's 361, but I wanna hear it from you. I'm looking for a new saw and haven't decided what to get yet. I might go 361/362 but I really am considering bigger, because I'm young and don't mind lugging around a big saw for the small jobs, too.

I got a 440 with a 25" bar, an extra chain (skip tooth/round bit), and a hat for $974 OTD from a dealer I've known and done business with all my life. 28" bar is the standard for the 440's around here but I didn't want that much bar on my every day saw. Should I run across that 50" behemoth I know where the saw shop is. It's more saw than I'll ever need and that's why I bought it. I thought about a 362 but decided against it as I was shooting for the "more saw than I'll ever need" mark.

I am loving this 440. The head isn't much heavier than my 290, but the extra 5" of bar and chain makes for some noticeable extra heft. I almost went with the 460 as it's the same size and weight, but I drew the line at $1000.

Too funny. I'm considering the exact same saw...

A 36x is a BIG saw ?!?!

O.K. a 660 + might be a bit heavy to limb, but if a 36(0,1,2) is too heavy for ya, let me introduce ya to a 192t, and use the 880 to fell that 6" caliper maple ;-)

B.R. - You got yourself a great saw at even better price!!

The 362 we have at work, w/ the 25" bar was around 5 and change.

Good luck to ya, and hope ya work the piss out of that saw!

All I can tell ya about the '62 that it was in the shop once with a warrantee issue with the coil. It's only been back a week, and in the "slow" season. They (Stihl + the shop) where great to deal with - even through a holiday weekend.

This is a "proving ground" sort of speak - if they don't kill it at there (at work), It'll last a live time anywhere else!

Don't let my (our) misfortune discourage you about a 362 - It's a great saw (as long as you don't let J.Azzez use it :-) )

Yep, when I got my new wild thing at walmart with a 24" bar, it took until about the 5th tank before it could turn the chain. Now I'm cutting up Christmas trees like nobody's business.

Sweet saw and way to take advantage of the limited run of the new 440's. As the rings seat, you will see noticeable power gain (you're not high)

440 or 441 ?

Limited run of the legendary 440 going on now......only problem is you better bring your wallet, priced very close to a 660.

I would rather have the 441, just great gas mileages....It adds up quick. Be interesting with the cookie cutter to give every one the same amount of gas and see how far they get. Seems to me on a work saw there missing the target.

440 or 441 ?

440

It was the same price as the 441 but without all the fancy "innovations"

I don't need a 440/441, but I sure want one.

I didn't either, but I now have saw big enough for any conceivable firewood cutting situation and small enough for every firewood job

Adios Pantalones said:
My understanding is that the big "fancy innovation" on the 441 saves you 10-20% on gas. I'll take it.

Me two, wonder how long it would take for the 441 to pay for its self at 4.00 a gallon? lol I bet for me just a couple years. :cheese:
