I'd question the 12' minimum. It seems like most problems we've seen lately from new BK owners are draft related, or wood isn't as dry as they think. At least you have room to work, if necessary.
When I was installing my King, I couldn't find anything in my manual. When I called they told me 14', but it is a different stove, and 8" vs 6". I had around 13', and it worked okay. I added 3', and it might work better, or I like to think it does because of the $100 I spent on the pipe.
