To close the loop.... put down some insulating board and a new stone, installed the quad fire explorer 2.

What a difference. Finally back to stack up kindling and paper, light it and a fire happens; rather than blowing and constantly monitoring the door and hoping it doesn’t go out, blow more, etc..... so far it has been set it and forget it with the new stove.

The first fire with very little effort AND the quad fire electric fan not installed yet got the house 4 degrees over what the old one would do ( when the old one ran for 12 hours full out! Compared to two hours just cruising to temp)

The stone needs recessed a little to have the quad fire electric fan fit, so I am excited to have the additional efficiency gain from that in the future.

Thanks all for the help trying to troubleshoot the original install. This seems like an enjoyable and sustainable current condition to enjoy for many years to come

Oh one last thought, that picture doesn’t have the back trim metal installed yet.

Making plates to trim up the hole into the ZC box and hopefully radiate heat to the room rather than the chase. Just had to get measurements first before cutting plate steel to the right sizes.
Hopefully that effort cleans it up visually
