After not being able to find someone local to come to my house and weld this thing for me, I just dragged the thing out onto my front porch and welded it myself and everything has been working good since then.

Congratulations!
Sometimes you just have to take matters into your own hands .
Unfortunately with pellet stoves it`s an all too common occurence.

im not really getting into this as its not my company and im not going to make a "value judgement" of another manufacturer here. things occasionally happen, its a handmade unit just as ours are. any manufacturer who says this never happens is blowing smoke (pardon the pun) but if i understand the "dealer service" warranty side of the buisness it falls upon the selling dealer to get the issue corrected , it doesnt matter in my opinion that he may no longer be carrying harman stoves at this point , he was carrying them when he sold the uit to you and that means he has to stand behind the product and deal with harman to receive compensation for his efforts. so in my mind at least he needs to be the person doing the leg work not you. you paid for the warranty along with paying for the stove. i would expect harman to offer what they did and if you could get an "on site" welding repair done it would be a done deal ( i have set up such things in the past myself), if not seems to me the dealer should be the one getting the stove transported to a site where the repair harman authorized the repair to be done. i do not know how that warranty reads personally and i may be wrong , but shouldnt the dealer be more actively involved in this? i know were it me who sold it i'd be shaking the bushes pretty hard right now.

RIGHT ON!!! This dealer was proud as pudding to take his percentage to sell you their stove. Now, for whatever reason he has dreamed up in his own head he CHOOSES just to take a walk. Get back to the bum if you don't mind some conflict in your life because he really is a dirty cheese eater. It is also a good time to remind him of the Better Business Bureau and State Atty General's office. Make him the promise that you will make him your personal pet project to tell every single person you know exactly what he did to you. Bad news travels fast , especially if you live in a smaller community.
As for your finding a welder, heck everyone and their brother has mobile rigs in their trucks now days, at least that goes for the bigger guys. After all why bother trying to save a few bucks for Harmon. Get into the phone book and find one, they are out there. Personally I would get Mr. Cheese eater involved and make him do the welding arrangements. Thats just in case Harmon decides to conveniently forget they promised you anything.

I wonder if you voided your warranty by doing it your self and not giving harman the chance to fix it?
i'm not trying to be a jerk its just that sometimes companies will see it as a way out.

You're the man. As I stated the other day, I too have a P68. If I would have encountered the problem that you did I would have been at the mercy of the dealer or a third party welder. I don't own a welding tool, and I've never welded anything in my life. I'm glad that you have the tools and knowledge to deal with this problem. INMHO I would submit a substantial bill to Harman to cover uninstalling the stove, moving it, welding the part back, and then moving it again and reinstalling it. I feel that's worth at least $500.

Enjoy your stove.

I was going to ask the same thing but in his case "what warranty"? Seems he hasn`t been able to find one of those willing and able Harman dealers. I`d have done the same thing myself.

It seems to me that Harman (knowing that the dealer was pretty far away, was giving up the Harman line, and was pretty much unwilling to do much to help), should have been a "stand up" company and contacted him directly, and offered to get the stove fixed, instead of having him jump through hoops and end up doing it himself.

At the very least, I think he should submit a bill to them for the work he did.

I have to admire the owner of the defective Pellet Stove.
A real good guy in doing the work himself.
I admire him for solving the problem for himself. I may would have it done the same way too.
I know Harman Stoves are not that cheap, but I surely would bust Manufacturer and Dealer on that.
What a lot of people don't understand, the better business bureau etc. ... they don't have any teeth, except if there are a lot of complains about the same issue.
A letter from a so called Lawyer, would have a much faster response.
It is so typical for this industry, they all like to sell but when it comes to back up their product they are nowhere to be seen.

The four (4) spot welds let go. Harman must have hundreds of these P68s doing the same thing!

A strong letter with photos and the repair receipts should go to Harman corporate, in addition to the selling dealer.

Edit: Harman corporate would certainly prefer hearing about it from their dealer or you directly, not from an attorney demanding compensation for damages or worse!

Find a local welding shop that does portable welding. They can come out and repair that stove. They will probably drill out the old plug welds so they can get good weld penetration into the main part of the stove.

Take that part to them, maybe with a couple of pix and explain what needs to be done.

These guys do a lot of unusual jobs and are pretty versatile.
