I purchased this LUAP Associates zero clearance insert last year and have fix some of the things that were wrong with it. I just recently installed it last weekend. My question is it has these two baffles in it and I do not know which way they are supposed to be positioned. The unit was taken apart when I picked it up and the people had just bought the home and the insert came with the home, they didn’t know anything about it. I have been searching online for the last week with hours on reading and looking at pictures and have not seen anything similar to the upper sliding baffle. Worst case scenario I will take both plates out and make a new baffle out of one plate. I have not installed the firebricks yet cause I don’t want to damage them while I’m finishing up everything.

I have never seen a wood stove with two baffles. The main principle is to put them the direction you will get the best flow through your flue. if you put the top plate with the opening facing the stove the gases won’t escape at least it looked very tight in the picture. I would go with them both facing the door as it seems the best option for good air flow.

I too do not know this stove but I can't see how the lower baffle would be effective if the upper one is facing out. The fit seems better with the upper opening facing inward. How much space between the opening and the back wall?
The warping and condition of the closed end of the upper baffle would also lead me to believe that it seen direct flame.

I agree with you rwhite as you can see in the pictures why would the slides stick out past the edge? I feel they are like that to keep it a certain distance from the back of the fireplace to not close the exit all the way. So my exhaust port is 10in X 4in which is 40sq in, I took a picture outside the fireplace of how it sits in the back and from my measurements it’s equal to or greater then the exit.

This is the first time I have seen or heard of this company. It's a guess, but this is the way I would try out the insert. It will need a 7" or 8" round flue liner.

I was thinking it could possibly go that way as well. You see why I’m asking for other peoples opinions lol. It’s plumbed into a 8in, I have the Rockford chimney rectangle to round adapter installed on it as well. This insert only pulls air from the bottom up around the door area and feeds into the insert right above the door. I also have a blower that it came with that sits at the bottom.

It looks like the firebrick is missing too. They should be put in before testing.

Yep firebrick is not put in yet, I have a box full of brand new brick sitting here. I am waiting to put the it in until I have everything finished, that way I don’t damage any. I also have a brand new door gasket I am installing.

I ended up placing the baffles this way, I think this is the original way they were intended to go. The top plate can slide back and forth to allow the exhaust to flow more or less up the chimney. I fired it up for the first time and found that I need a new glass seal which I went and got today, and will be installing it tonight. The door gasket that I just installed seems to be working just fine so that’s a plus. I also decided to clean my chimney. All and all I think this ZC will work out just fine. Thank you to everyone that offered there opinions and helping me out.
