My nice little Score Today, What is It ?

I picked up this nice little pile in new jersey along side of the road thanks to PSEG they cut it in nice size pieces that was to good to resist. I did leave some big pieces for somebody else to muscle into there truck. I think it to be red oak what do you guys think.

Can't tell for sure, but the bark kinda looks like hickory does here down south where I live.

No clue but i'm thinking it's not Red Oak. The different stages of bark on oaks confuses me but I've been burning mostly red oak and have not seen that bark yet. The profile also looks more "shaded" then the red I've been burning.

i plan on splitting all the wood i scrounged all winter which is about 2 cords in a couple of weeks. thanks to all who replied.

oak would be more likely to have two color meat.
the two pieces at the back of the pile look like maple.
The bark does get coarse as the tree matures.

Still a good score.
Worth stopping for.

Not oak. Looks like Norway maple to me as well. I got my FIL's when it came down- it was bigger, but similar bark

I was thinking the same thing, but I just split some and it got wet and turned a little orange like that. Once it dries it will blind you in the sun
