willow is a good wood for kindling or for laying on glowing embers as it'll ignite easily and get a good flame going so you can put other wood on top. like others have said it's a good wood to burn on cold damp days to have at least a little heat coming off the stove. even if just for a romantic evening with a bottle of wine and the missus curled up in the dark in front of the stove.

willow has 8600btu's per lb. Just like other wood. It's just that it isn't very dence so it takes more to make a lb. Get it dry and in my gasser and it makes heat. BUT to get it dry it has to get split.

Thanks for all the tips and comments. In light of the tips, the willow will find a drying spot and be used for shoulder season fires and such. Thanks again! :coolsmile:

It's all about return on effort. It takes the same effort to process low value wood as it does better stuff but it doesn't return the same value. You do the math.
