$2146 total vs $2809. WOW that s huge difference! :bug:

the amount I was quoted of $2,153 is confirmed by MSG's $2,146 so I know I'm getting a pretty good deal.....
Sounds good to me . He(( , thats right about what i paid for the Summit classic.

But $2809. !Damn , does that dealer call the customers an idiot right to there face too. Talk about used car lot sales.

Update: I just put $1300 down on the Jotul C450 wood burning insert in matte black with standard 30" x 40" cast iron surround and optional blower for $2153 plus tax. Should have it in two weeks. Bought it here: (broken link removed)

strange, my 07' price book doesnt list the blower as a option, i can only buy them pre installed. Not that it matters or anything, just a strange inconsistancy. The price is the same, so it doesnt matter. The website shows it as a accessory.

MSG,

I know what you mean...pg 21 of the C450 operating instructions says it's an option.....a few dealers say it comes with it and others have told me it's an option...

Anyway, a question if you please: Jotul shows a mantle heat shield, PN 155833 for the C450 and I was wondering instead if I could use a shield under the mantle? Their shield comes out at a 45 deg from the top of the insert? Any ideas?

I had breakfast with my Jotul rep this morning, and i brought the question about the blower up. Not that it has anything to do with your purchase Cast, i just want to set the record strait for our other readers.
2005 and earlier Kennebecs, the blower was a option,
2006 and later it came standard.
So depending on your delaers inventory, they may or may not have the one with the blower pre installed. The pricing is the same reguardless.

MSG,

Did he say anything on my heat shield question or do you have any input?

thanks

I can see why they made the blower non-optional. With the insert tucked all the way into the fireplace, even with my leaky surround + no blockoff plate (which I'm blaming for my fast cool-downs), I've been concerned about surface temps when running without the fan (power outtages etc...). It's very doable, but requires quite a bit more attention than operating with the fan.

Granted, this is only one person's experience, and it's not really sans-fan, the fan was there but not operational, so airflow may be different than without the fan at all.

I didnt ask him, because he is not the techical authority. I called tech support. They would only say that it is approved with the listed shield that is avalible for the unit. They would not comment any further. I think i would check with your local building office and see what they say.

thanks anyway. I did order the heat shield...will see how it looks. Here's whats interesting: Jotul lists safe clearances to mantles and this varies depending on how deep the mantle is....fair enough....makes sense...BUT when they say these distances can be lowered by using a heat shield, my guess is that to avoid having to stock heat shields of varying depths, that they instead make a "one size fits all" shield that will protect even the deepest mantle they list (12").........so......if it's a really large, ugly shield, I'm cutting it down .......

thats your call cast, it of course becomes a unlisted install at that point and thats the risk your going to take. Im not saying not to do it, but your well aware of the ramifications of modifying a listed and tested appliance.

MSG,

You're right.....will have to do a "Ted Kennedy" and cross that bridge when I come to it and may have to live with the full shield......only way (unlike Ted) to guarantee that nobody dies ...........LOL

I should of been more clear. I was in Peoria, IL for training, and stopped into the Jotul dealerthere, and they were not aware of the 350. I have not had a chance to stop by the local Arnold Fireplace (although it's only 5 miles away) yet.

Castiron, if you are referring to the St. Louis dealers as who you have called, my heart has just sank... They are really ripping St. Louisians off. I hope they were mistaken and quoted you a 450.

BTW, the Peoria dealer's price included the blower and surround.

Wow...stove are sure expensive out there.....I called these dealers and one said he wanted $2,471 for the stove and surround and $338 for the blower......total of $2,809 plus tax and wouldn't give any of the "up to 10% discount" mentioned on the Jotul site...... The other dealer said $2,443 for the insert and surround and $281 for the blower for a total of $2,724 and I forgot to ask if he'd give any of the "up to 10% discount".....

My dealer here says he'll sell me this insert and surround for $2,114 less 10% which makes it $1,903 plus $250 for the blower for a total of 2,153 plus tax........that's about $571 to $ 653 cheaper........

I just called Arnold Fireplace, and was quoted $2550 with standard surround, standard blower, matte finish. 350 Winterport.

The 450 sells for $2687.30, standard surround and blower.

The Quarda fire 2700i sells for $1918 with standard surround and blower.

I mentioned to him that the Peoria dealer I visited was $2500 for the 450 and he responded that they don't stock the Jotuls, and freight kills them. That I can believe. Shipping 450 lbs on a "less than load (LTL)" isn't cheap. If I could wait, he could combine my order with other orders and save freight.

Still - ouch.

I called the ones in Arnold, Mo and Edwardsville, IL and those prices I listed were the ones I was given for the 450, with surround and blower.....I see you were given a slightly lower price at one shop...strange.....but, their price is still over $500 more than where I got mine.....saving $500 is worth driving a few miles for, huh?

Ouch what???? St Louis is only 6 hrs away....save $500... edited: just saw your initial post where you could get it at $2,400 in MO...but that was before the sale started officially in Feb....might want to go ask again for the price and remind them of the up to 10% off. Your $2400 is only about $250 more than I was quoted and if they reduce it even more, then you're in the ball park
