Mount Vernon AE Opinions please..

I just bought a new AE 2008 (New meaning unused) and I am reading it needs many new parts to prevent new heart aches. These are the parts that I believe that I need to upgrade this dinosaur:

Parts I am told that I should buy to replace my dinosaur parts:

firepot #srv7034-072 $137 Needed because it allows pellets to flow better]

I just found another firepot number Quadrafire Mt. Vernon AE Burn Pot Upgrade SRV7034-072B WHAT DOES THE B stand for at the end of 072?

You hopped on a two year old post but hopefully AE owners will see it and provide you advice. I was wondering if it is new, why not run it before replacing all those parts. Sometimes it's easy to believe that since a poster here is having a problem, everyone with the same stove will have that problem. I am sure there are many owners of your model stove that haven't had to replace all those parts.

have a 2008 AE and have only replaced ignitor a few times. This year I also replaced the door gaskets, I would probably get a spare ignitor and just run it until you have issues and need to replace all those other parts. Maybe also replace door gaskets as they should probably be done at least every 7 years.

I keep getting the min pot message. I've unplugged n reset too many times. Also it stopped heating properly. It worked 3 times with awesome heat n stopped.

I've read it's the thermocouple issue and it needs updated. Since I'm paying someone 100 an hour to fix I might as well upgrade while they are taking it apart. I will keep the old igniter but toss the thermocouple.

The new fire pit reduces more future problems and helps to save the igniter.

Does anyone else out there have the new 360 or whatever the wattage is? I'm wondering how long it will last.

igniter/380 watt #7000-647 $65 (is 7000-647 the correct model number for a 380 watt? or is it model SRV7000-462?)
Quadra Fire MT. Vernon AE / Edge 60 OEM Igniter- SRV7000-462 - 380 WATT - CORN (which model is better to buy?) igniter 300 watt #7000-462 I only burn pellets now, but I might want to mix with wheat or something else in the future . . . maybe. Any advice on which igniter to purchase?
Igniter is needed because the original part is so sub-par it may not work to the 3rd operation!

Quadrafire Mt Vernon AE Thermocouple Cover SRV7034-186 $25.39 (I'm told if the existing cover is ceramic, it must be pushed all the way against the thermocouple for it to work properly - i may not need this particular part, correct?)

Man you got a lot going on here. First off you have a good control board in it with the 456C. Your firepot is fine for pellets. They changed the design of the firepot to try and help make the igniters last longer. A bonus of this was it made fuel ignite faster, especially corn. They changed the design of the firepot thermocouple. I can't remember why. The newer one needs the stove modified to install as it sits out further from the pot where it comes in the firebox floor. The 380 watt igniter is for igniting corn and all other fuels. The 300 watt igniter SRV7000-647 is only for igniting pellets and is suppose to last longer. As long as an igniter is getting hot, it is working. The thermocouple cover is ceramic on all Quad stoves. It is necessary to protect the thermocouple, and yes it works best when thermocouple is touching the inside end of the cover, and sticking into the pot 3/4 to 1 ", for correct heat reading. kap

Getting a min. firepot error can be other things besides just the thermocouple. Are you sure you are on the right setting for the fuel you are using? Are all firepot holes open? This includes pot floor also. Is firepot closing all the way? Is it sitting snuggly to pot bottom? No gaps? Is it feeding enough fuel? Checking some of these things out could save you a few bucks. Did you get an owners manual when you got this stove? IF not, I would download one from Quads website. Stay in touch. kap

If you are buying a 2008 unused from the dealer it should be upgraded by the company at no cost to you. The control board may be a old original but Quadrafire should replace it under their warranty. There is also a software update that your dealer can install with a computer. The fire pot can be modified via use of a drill and work like a new fire pot. The newer igniters last longer but still go out . I would buy a spare just in case.
I was one of the original owners of a AE and after the first year Quadrafire replaced everything in that stove. I then sold it as I wasn't going to go through another winter with it. The fellow that bought it used it to burn pellets and had good luck but I wanted to burn corn and it wasn't a good choice for burning corn. I know people that bought their AEs the same year as I did and they had decent luck burning pellets but they were given new boards, new thermostats, new igniters , new pots.
The best thing about the AE was the capability to be connected to a 12 volt battery so it wouldn't go out if the power goes south.

Run as fast as you can!! We bought a new 2006 Mt Veron AE 4 years ago. They didn't offer to give us any upgrades free or other wise. Wasn't even informed we needed upgrades. It had broken down on average of 3-4 times each season here in NW Montana. We had spent over $1000 on repairs & parts and that doesn't include warranty repair costs! When it does work it works great, but you never know for how long!! Our stove is a lemon and Quadrafire has been asked to replace their POS and refused. We are finally going to throw the POS out and buy something hopefully more reliable!! Quardrafire has been a huge disappointment to us and we strongly urge anyone thinking of buying one to think twice!!
