I acquired an old Morso 1b that has never been fired, and am installing it in a small garage with metal roof. There's no fire brick in the stove, and since it's never been used, I'm guessing that it came that way. Should I add fire brick to reduce the chances of cracking the castings? I do have the manual but -- ouch -- it's in Danish). Thanks for any info.

Nice find! The Morso 1b has side liners instead of firebrick. These protect the outside castings. They are replaceable and usually last a long time if overfiring is avoided. Make sure they are there.

Note that installing a wood stove in a garage is illegal in most jurisdictions. Check with the local inspecting authority and the insurance company first.

Thanks. We live out in the country -- no rules here. Anyway, the building isn't connected to the house, has solid stone walls and a corrugated steel roof, and I'll make sure to keep safe distances with the chimney.

Proper chimney pipe needs to be used from the roof up. That has 2" clearance typically. Inside, stovepipe is used with 18" clearance for single wall and 6" for double wall.
