We looked over our stock of steel barrels the other day, and it appears we have 18 steel 55 gallon units.

At 440 pounds per drum that equates to 7920 lbs

3 runs with the dumpster is 8100 lbs if we fill it all the way.

I can get 10 drums in the slot and store the rest in the out building.

Fairly easy to move the drums outside with the Skidsteer loader.

Always worry about not having enough though.

Sort of like being a "Pellet Pig" me thinks.

Getting under way on the lift.

The trolley parts are being bent and should be ready early this coming week.

Stopped at Harbor freight and picked up an 880 lb hoist today.

I can now measure real time and get the tram the correct height to double stack the drums.

The packaging and manual does not give any info on the dimensions of these hoists, sooooooooooooo, got it and can measure it real time.

Kinda cute little guy.

I did not want to build the tram and have it not be able to stack the drums

Its certainly not industrial quality, but it will do fine

You might want to take a look at this. Last item at the bottom of the page is a small grain auger, in this case used to fill the hopper on a coal stove.

Been there.

The barrels have 3/4" clearance side to side.

I have a barrel caddy, but it's way too wide.

Another plan in the works is to install little slide gates at the bottom of each barrel to eliminate the need to scoop out the shells.

With the top row of barrels, just sit our 5 gallon bucket under the gate and let the shells run out into the shaker (Screen bottom bucket)

This will eliminate a lot of scooping.

Will need a little stand to sit the lower ones on as we get to them to raise them high enough to use the gate.

This entire revamp will take a bit of time and a few $$$ but should really clean up the area and streamline the process a lot.

Wish I had room in the slot for 20 barrels.

We could get an entire seasons worth pluuuuuuuus in all at once.

When $$$$ are no object, any and all waaaaaaaaay cool things can be easily be achieved.

Living on a fixed retirement income now, so I scrounge craigs list and ebay.

If the cost was no biggy, I would have an auger lift to a spot near the large stove in the family room.

I drew up a plan for a cool little cabinet that would cover the auger and allow a 5 gallon pail to sit under the auger drop.

Simply press a momentary switch and fill the bucket, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yesssssssssss, no more carrying buckets up the stairs.

The cost was prohibitive.

Have you considered using a shop vac or leaf blower, with rigid dryer vent to move the shells upstairs? I watched a you tube video, where a guy used one to move pellets using a 5 gal bucket and drain pipe into his bin.

The big issue is DUST

The shells have a fair amount of dust.

The only real way to keep from filling the house with dust would be an auger system.

But on a vac system the vac could filter the air or vent it outside after the dump

I've been kicking around the idea of a.vacuum system utilizing a cyclone to move pellets around. I'm kind of tired of having 7 pallets sitting outside my front door. I figure I could build a chute to dump in bulk storage in the basement and use pvc pipe run to a cyclone in.the attic powered by a shop vac or.a.whole house vacuum. Just run another pipe right down by the stove to fill a bucket. Viola!!

I used to install grain probes and they use.the same method to pull samples out of grain trucks to check for moisture.
