I was playing in the garage today. I had to install a new choke lever in my Poulan so I decided to pull the muffler and check the cylinder and the spark arrester screen. The screen had some carbon and crud on it but it wasn't completely blocked. I cleaned it by cooking it with a blowtorch then a wire brush. I also opened up the holes in the baffle a drill size or so, see pics. On the back of the muffler toward the cylinder there were openings stamped that let the exhaust out and deflect it to the left. I opened these by bending them wider with pliers. I got it all back together. It started right up and I adjusted the carb a bit richer. It ran great, is a little louder and more responsive. First pic is stock holes.
