michigan or newp pellets ? what are everyones choice on these. can buy them both about the same price delivered if i buy a truck load 245.00 ton. what everones thoughts or experiences?

I've burned NEWP and like them. No experience with the Michigan pellets. Do a search on this site for info.

Hi jsvo,

I have burned both and say they are very close in heat output and ash content! But the Michigins burned a tad hotter!

So if price is the same go with the Michigans.

Just my 2.

Michigan pellets are fine but produce about twice as much ash as the Newps. It's very fine and light but twice the volume. I had to empty the ash pan 2x as often.... They burn fine

I had the same choice when ordering next winter's supply.

I opted for NEWP simply because I wanted to support my "local" economy. NEWP's a made 75 miles from my house, they use scrap from a veneer company my brother-in-law works for and I know they are fresh from the plant when I get them (still hot!!).

For this, I actually paid $15/ton than what I could have bought Michigan's for.

Personal choice... not much science.

TboneMan, I live in Frankfort, not too far from the new NEWP factory. I have visited several local pellet stove dealers and it seems that this is all that they sell. I am looking to buy a pellet stove this year. Do you have any suggestions for reputable dealers in central ny?

Tester,

I'm north of Syracuse so I don't have any experience with specific stove dealers in your area. I know there is a "hearth store" in Utica and I've driven past one in Rome (near Fort Stanwix).

You might try looking East also. You're not all that far from Albany/Schnectady area. In other words, you might have to travel a bit to find something.

Start a new thread asking for recommendation from these areas.

Get references if you're having the dealer do the installation.

I bought 4 ton of michigans for this winter. Haven't tried them yet but I expected additional ash. They were worth it for229
