A bat ended up in a mousetrap in our attic during one of our warm spells, when it should have been hibernating earlier this winter. Looked like it wasn't trying to eat the peanut butter, but was just crawling across it, when it snapped. The gf was in the attic for something, and thought it was a mouse until she brought it down in broad daylight. Then she freaked out when it moved and she saw leathery wings. It was definitely an unintended catch.

A couple of years ago a bat got in the house and landed on me when I was asleep. I knew it was inside because I saw it flying around above me right before I went to sleep. It bit me twice on the forearms, leaving distinct marks, but didn't wake me. The next evening my gf asked what bit my arms, and the next morning we found the closest hospital with the rabies immunoglobulin.

Between the immunoglobulin shots and vaccine shots, I think there were 6 in all. The vaccine shots needle was small, the immunoglobulin needle was huge. All shots were in the upper arm muscle tissue, not the stomach.

Because the immunoglobulin is perishable and dosed according to patient weight (225 lbs) the bill from the hospital was almost $50k. Out of pocket costs were almost $5k. I should have dragged my tired ass up out of bed and escorted it outside.

you can tell the animal who did the damage from the spacing of the teeth, but I never looked hard into that as there's always been other signs around. I'd think a rat would be more inclined to leave it alone. Since squirrels live as if they are on crack, they tend to chew everything in sight.

Better to be safe than sorry with rabies. FYI, our normal bat jobs are 2500-4000 or so. Most other states are less expensive by a good amount. I've seen bats caught on glue boards and in traps a few times. I agree they are just crawling around on top of the insulation.

A customer of mine gave me some to put in my classic cars. Just trying them for the first time this winter. So far, so good. Smells like a Christmas tree!

We tried these after mice destroyed wiring on our tractor and two mowers last fall. So far they have kept the mice away, we are seeing no signs of rodents on any of our equipment.

It comes in a pouch. The balsam fir oil is impregnated on plant "fiber". So, no powder. You just place the pouches wherever you want to repel the mice. We put them under the hood and seat of our tractors/mowers. Convenient. And they are very fragrant. We remove them and set them aside when we go to use the equipment then put them back when finished.

Already ordered a box. Looks like a far preferable option to moth balls, for any enclosed space.

Peppermint oil is also supposed to be a strong repellent, but you need to refresh frequently to keep up the effect. I soaked cotton balls for a while but just keeping them out of the garage as best as possible seems more effective, I hope.

Just be glad that you are not dealing with this!
