I haven't checked out your article, but one I read on a guy that had researched the accuracy of this found that the striping seemed to be more of an indicator of the prior winter and the amount of time spent hibernating!

Interesting story Smokey....didn't know the "rest of the story". BTW, I live about 15 minutes from Bear Mtn. State Park, so MY woolly bears are the originals and never lie!
Your woolly's just might be flat landers from away.

Up here in the sticks we use big blue plastic tarps to cover equipment (and holes in roofs) that we don't want to get rusty (for water to come in). This is a long standing tradition, you judge the severity of storms by the number of blue tarps you need afterwards.
Today I was flubbing around moving equipment in the garage. I pulled the snowblower out of its off season location behind the generator. Put it outside and gave it a checkup, followed by filling the tank, and allowing it to turnover for a few minutes as I checked all of the control linkages. Then I shut it down, turned off the fuel valve, let it cool, and covered it with a (I'll let you guess). It is already to go and is sitting under the rear (well I'll call it the rear) deck. The slot the generator is in will then get the grill and the where the snowblower was the generator will sit.

Geez, I kina thunk it was the other way around.
I think an aerial shot of Maine would show Harbor Freight blue tarps covering a big % of the state.
It's not just in Maine. Got a few around here too. I even cover my toys with them except mine are green! Lil less noticeable or blends in a tick.
The last batch of dark stuff I whipped up was some Highland Heavy Ale, which isn't quite ready to consume. It isn't a particularly strong brew, my blackberry wine has far more kick to it, alas it is also not ready, nor is the apple/pear wine. So lately I've been working on some Angry Orchard stuff. The boss let me buy a variety pack.

As for the tarps, I use some of them too, but I really don't want them sticking out like "a sore thumb", so mine are brown or camo.
