Magsf11 you have to just go check out the feed supply places. Not Agway or the other yuppy places but the ones that sell feed to farmers like Blue Seal. They are always located on a railroad track and have that big high steel tubing to load corn into the tank. You can often find a better deal by just buying from a farmer if there are any nearby. You should have a lot more corn over in your area than we have up here and cheaper too. The problem in the last couple years is that everyone has been selling to the gasahol plants and the price is so high that even the farmers couldn't afford to buy much so it is pretty scarce. I was surprised that it was only 182 when I asked. Ah, I recall that 3 years ago I bought a ton in Canada and it cost me $78 and the rest of the season it went up to $125.

Wow, after reading some posts on how hard and expensive it was to get pellets in Rhode Island this past season, how were you so lucky to get them at $225 a ton, and only $224 a ton last year?

Called East Coast Lumber in East Hampstead, NH yesterday. Delivering New England Wood Pellets right now for $269/ton (1 ton skids) plus $40 per delivery (regardless of # of skids). His feeling is that the price will not drop significantly in the immediate future. For southern NH that's not a bad price...

Wow, after reading some posts on how hard and expensive it was to get pellets in Rhode Island this past season, how were you so lucky to get them at $225 a ton, and only $224 a ton last year?

It's called perserverance. I make many phone calls to many different distributors and manufacturers, and see who wants to play ball.

If you can get a few people together and buy a semi directly, you will save a lot. This is in Michigan-thumb area.

My dealer pools his customers and buys semi-loads direct from factory in Tennessee. Current price is $155/ton, you pick them up at the dealer 1 ton at a time. I told him put me down for 5 tons.

I am having a haed time finding corn.

Mags go to pierce milling in delevan ny about 45 minutes south of buffalo just off route 16. Take route 400 and it turns into rt16 go to delevan and make a left at the light (only light in town) go about 3/4 of a mile and it is on the left right over the rr tracks. 100# bags of corn for 10 bucks. Tell them you want burning corn. They have their own mill right next to the tracks and have all the corn you need.

I had a 10% coupon at HD and grabbed two tons out of the block for $540. Looking to pick up another two as I believe these pellet prices are headed upwards as there is no more cheap sawdust. In addition, the tax credit for stoves will spur new pellet stove owners and these current oil prices won't hold at this level. I am lucky that I have a small house and can probably get away with just a couple of tons for a season of heat. Anything around $250/ton is gift and I will grab all I can, right NOW! Very envious of the guys in Wisconsin with those $200/ton prices. Will trade lobster for pellets????

now energy prices are coming down ... pellets are gonna be on the high end.... over here NAT GAS is going to go from 1.18 a therm to .68 in may!
yes it will go back up, yes oil will rise but it is expected to stay around that 2.00 per gal up to 2.50.... but paying 300 a ton IF you have another alternative is crazy.... however, if you are doing it for the envir. okay i understand, or if where your stove is located it works for you saving money great!
for me however, its about saving money, so in MY situation 300+ ton is insane! it makes me wanna get rid of the stove! but its all i have in the area its in.. so i buy it by the bag from whoever is cheapest and leave it on low and stay outta that area... i stay where the wood stove is or in the basement which is on the oil furnace..... when oil was $4 i kept the basement at the lowest temp possible and went somewhere else..
many people out there are gonna think the same and if nat gas /propane/oil stay cheap/reasonable there will be a lotta pellets in stores this winter which should bring the price down by august (supply n demand to much supply) have a cold winter somewhere in the us and prices go up... i guess its the same ole same ole

Have you burned corn from there before? I haven't burned any corn in my stove yet but I'd be willing to try it at that price. It's not far from my folks house and I go up there often.

Here we are 8 months later and people are talking about getting rid of their pellet burners like fuel prices will never flip-flop again. To me common sense says it doesn't cost any more to stay multi-fuel and have cost and burning options.

firenutz i havent burned corn from them but did burn it befor. the best mix i found was 60% pellets 40% corn. the clinkers were not to bad. just a little bit more cleaning. going down there tuesday to get 200lbs to try.

Take a drive and come see me. I have pellets for $245.00 pre-pay before 04-15-09. After that it is $250 for May.

I totally agree. Having the option is a great thing. Another plus is that you can buy pellets by the bag in a pinch. Better than buying a minimum quantity of other fuels which can be $200-300 easy.

i totally agree with you as well, matter of fact i use... oil furnace, pellet stove, gas stove insert, wood stove insert and electric heat
whichever is cheaper gets used more!
i do care about the environment but the amount of money in my pocket limits me on how to keep the house warm!

Let them sell their pellet stoves, more cheap stoves for the smart ones who buy ahead and plan for the next year, or decade. those same fools who unload their pellet stoves at a loss now will be getting ripped off by dealers, or waiting months for delivery in a year or two when the energy taxes on oil hit big.

I haven't read this entire thread so if it has been mentioned I apologize. I would NOT order through the website, I'd call them. I live in a small town, Burrillville, RI. Each of the old villages Pascoag, Harrisville, etc have their own zipcode. If I put in my zipcode (pascaog) and then put in Harrisville or some other which, by the way Harrisvill is about a 1/16 of a mile down the road, I get different options. For my zip I get Westwood 259/ton. For Harrissville I get westwood for 249/ton. Don't believe me check for yourself. 02859 and 02830. This is the same friggin town. No way I'm paying $10 more than the guy down the street. I'm sure they would give me the better price they seem like decent people.

What I'm saying is experiment with some other (near by) zip codes before you just order online. What I really don't like is that North Smitihfield 02896 (next town over 10 mins away) I get two pellet choices, Smithfield 02917 two choices one diff from N. Smithfield. Anyway I could go on. Point is these towns are all within a 20 minute radius and should be offered the same choices and same prices. Do your homework first everyone, then see if they'll give you the best price. Just my .02
