I had same problem with hearth extender. Instead of messing with my wood floors. I got this extender to put on floor in front of hearth. It passed with local building inspector.

ya I saw those at the stove place and was going to buy one but they aren't very cheap and then I remembered I have a butt load of leftover tile so figured why not use that. I think im going to do a row or two in front of the hearth and then extend it to one or both sides all the way to the wall so I have somewhere to put wood without worrying about cleaning the carpet all the time.

Thanks for sharing your pics. The install looks great. How do you like the freedom insert so far?

Do you also install a liner and block off plate? How do you like the stove so far?

ya there is a liner going all the way up the chimney and a block off plate at the top. the stove is so tight in my fireplace they had to put a 45* off the top of the stove to hook the pipe to. I love the stove so far, it puts out some heat! especially that glass door, I hope my dogs don't have to learn the hard way that that's one window they don't wanna stick there nose on! but I do have one comment/complaint. I haven't figured out exactly what is causing it, and maybe someone else here has had the same thing happen and can help me out. ever since my first burn, when the stove gets warmed up, and I mean like only 15 minutes after starting the fire, the bypass damper gets very hard to open and close, and makes an awful screeching noise. when the stove cools down it opens and closes fine. my first thought was that the installer put the pipe too close to the bypass and when the stove warmed up everything expanded enough to make them touch, but now im not so sure. after the first fire went out I looked up inside and the pipe didn't look like it was too close, it was close, but im not sure that is the issue although I haven't ruled it out yet. anyone else had this problem?
