Jotul Olso 500 front door fix

I heard there was a fix for the front door ash out pouring issue. I've looked.... And looked... No luck. If such a link exists would someone mind "hooking a brotha up"

I believe the only available fix is to use the side door... At least that's what I do.

I use the side door 90% of the time but still, it would be nice to be able to use both. I would mainly use the front door for building a fire when I have no hot coals. Or even cleaning the stove out & cleaning the glass. I can live with it, however it's a super dumb problem to have with such an expensive/ high quality stove.

I agree, it is sort of a bummer but I was aware of the issue before I purchased the stove, so I can't complain.

You are right Sootfoot, there was an old thread on that topic. I can't recall what the fix was, but it was something simple like putting a pipe or angle steel just inside the door or something like that.

I don't know where/how to find the post you refer to it but I seem to recall it was just a loose length of gasket positioned across the front of the front door.

I remember seeing two fixes . . . both of which were mentioned by Shari and BeGreen . . . one person used an oversized gasket in the channel in front (or back actually) of the front door while the other person used a length of angle iron in the channel.

As mentioned . . . there is always the alternative of using the side door when possible.

Yes I can't imagen living a life without the side door for the 500! So the 600 then, they must of changed the style? There is no way ash poors out the front with the 600 too??

The F600 has the same caveat. The side door is supposed to be locked for corner installs. This is a clearance issue.

I know the clearance fact because the original owner of my jotul had it set up in the corner of his house, I had to disable the side door lock.

Again, the jotul without a side door or atleast an ash vac, would be a nightmare. I hate this front door, it's embarrassing . I think I'll mess around and try to install a length of angle like Jake said.

I never understood the clearances issue. In fact I find using the side door much safer , as the occasional spark when loading hit my stone side walls and land on the hearth. My side door swings fully open and around to the back. There's plenty of room to side load and no chance to have anything roll will roll out.

Be Green do you have any idea what the issue could be?

This is a clearances issue. With the side door open, 16" clearance is required. Many installations don't have stone surrounding the corner install. I was considering the F500 but we have a window and wall on the left side. In your case, the stones offer some protection.

As I recall, with the door closed I have the correct clearance from the corner to the wall, and I have a rear shield. But ,yes the door does only clear the wall by a few inches as you swing it open. That's strange that they would consider that an issue. I guess the door is hot when you open it but you don't run. It open. Besides the ash issue, I only use the side door because I have seen logs rolling out of front loaders that that are east west orientated.

You mean you only think it would be useful to use the side door, right . . . because we wouldn't want any incriminating evidence on line if ever there was an issue.
