My husband and I just finished installing our Jotul Black Bear. We really like it. The only thing I've noticed is the wood floor in front (side of) the stove gets very hot. We have the correct hearth size and requirments, but it still concerns me. Anyone else have this problems. Maybe I should get a hearth rug?

The kitty seems to enjoy the heat.

I'm not sure if a hearth rug would offer you much protection from the heat . . . maybe a bit from the radiational heat, but for some reason I am thinking the hearth rug is more for floor protection in terms of errant embers.
