Is this worth it? (Kiln Dried)

You got 12 of those pallets delivered for $ 108.33 each? You got a Good deal! I would have jumped on that. I'd use a pallet jack and put them all inside my garage. Convient. At that price, I'd sell my saw and splitting tools. I would have left them in the bags with the handles - rather then stacking them - to make it easy to bring inside to the stove.

I would also figure 2 of those makes a cord - so just under 6 cords? $ 216 for a cord of kiln dry is good --> if it's good (hardwood) and not a soft wood. How much heat did it put out?

We have KD fire wood dealers in NNJ and PA - but they want about $ 400+ a pallet.

Let us know how it goes - if you are satisfied. You guys unpacked it - how do the splits feel? So this guy would deliver to NNJ?

Len said he had about 20 pallets left. It seems to be some birch, some oak and a few other species I can't identify. I haven't split it and put a moisture meter to it, but it's weight in the hand feels like what a chunk of wood of its size should be - not overly heavy but not like balsa or basswood. The driver told one of the guys on my crew that he came out of Elizabeth. I'm in Peekskill, NY, so I don't see why he wouldn't deliver to NNJ. I don't have a garage and the pallet jack couldn't get onto my rough driveway, so they dropped 8 of the pallets on the street and offloaded the other 4 by hand onto the driveway. We keep a couple of days supply in the house and it's easier to move it in with the wood cart than to carry it two bundles at a time. Those bags are a nuisance to remove, so since I had a three man crew for the day it was easier to just let them do it. We did leave the handles stapled on because the was just too annoying to do all of them at once. 744 splits will have them, but removed over 2 seasons it won't seem as bad.

Nice score. Who did you buy your green wood from? Just curious about the guys in our area in case I get lazy and don't scrounge enough.

The first batch I got from Garrison Tree. It was supposed to be 14-16 inches. It was 10-26". To their credit they sent a guy with a chainsaw over and cut the stuff that was too long to fit in my firebox. $190cord, delivered. The stuff was quite green. Second batch was from Mahopac Mulch. Chad over there talks a good game about what dry wood is. That is, unfortunately, not reflected in his product. I bought 2 cords of seconds from him, $150cord, plus $80 delivery. So it cost the same as Garrison, was nowhere near seasoned and was basically crap wood. I will burn it but it was a bad fit for my insert. Currently I don't have a dealer with whom I'm happy, but I'll let you know if I find one.

No, I had my crew strip all the bags and stack it that day. I'm not letting any of it go except up in heat!
I am thinking about approaching Len about a group buy. Maybe if enough people are interested we can make a deal for a trailer next year. Not sure if or how it would work, but I'll post if I come up with something.

I would try Golden Tree in Montrose. I bought from him a few years ago. His price was good and wood seemed to be pretty good. I burned his wood in my old smoke dragon, so maybe it wasn't that good and I didn't know. If you want to buy greenish wood for next year, I have a friend in Croton who will deliver a proper size cord of good stuff at a good price. I'll give you his number if you are interested.
