Good morning,

I recently installed an Osburn 3500 Insert and am very pleased with the heat output thus far. However, I am curious if the faceplate is necessary? I burned the first few days without it and after putting it on for the last two, I wonder if you can allow more heat to be released into the room without it installed? Has anyone had experience with this or have any input? I feel that the room was warmer when we were burning without it. I tried to search the forums but most of the conversations I found on faceplates were more so on the fit of them or sizing. Thank you!

It is not necessary and you can burn without.
Some folks do like the look better without.

I never installed mine Drolet 1800i. I wrapped my liner in a split section of 8” stove pipe cut to the appropriate length. It looks better that way. And it allow led me to move the insert further back to get my 16” on my raised hearth.

Not sure if you found the thread where I posted some pics of my setup.

I basically made a metal trim kit to go behind the stove and painted it with black stove paint and left the faceplate off. I'm very happy with the results. Theres also 2" thick rigid roxul insulation behind the metal panels insulating the back and sides of the fireplace.
