So 7 bucks a bag .. And I'm the bad guy at 8 .. Don't worry I won't have a problem sleeping tonightIt doesn't make anyone "better" or "worse", DL.
Just different.
The difference is very simple.
First off, the $5.65 was for the ton pricing of that current supply.
The load we got after, went up $.62 cents/bag. He went up $.50.
The last load we got went up almost $1200 for the load.
We don't get 6 tons at a time, we get from 22-26 tons, from a broker.
And we'd like to get a couple of loads a week if possible.
But it's been tough. ergo, the 5 bag limit. I dare say we may possibly
be the only dealer that has not had to say "sorry, we are out"... even once.
We were told cost could be as much as $265-270 a ton before it's over.
It's not the same deal as Lowes... we have never said we are cheaper than them.
Our prices are more like the pricing of seafood at a restaurant..
It's fair market driven.
Everyone has their own idea of what is okay, DL.
That is your right. Business is business..
Oh, it's now 5 for $35. Not $33... we had to go up $.40.
Dan
Loading with a forktruck takes at least two people, sometimes three. One drives, one or two block off all entrances to the area, and at the Lowes in Clemson, there's a safety representative that just observes and makes sure you are out of the way and have your emergency brake on. If you want ten bags in your back seat, one guy loads them. Either way they are getting paid whether they load you or go hide somewhere so they don't have to wait on anyone. It takes a lot less time and effort, to load a ton with a forklift, than it does to
break down pallets, move them into the store, and help people load them into
the trunks of their Camrys..
The number of people you have has no bearing on this.
The more people/time you spend on something, the less you make on the deal.
Just sayin'...

That's a very good point iceguy! And I'll bet you sleep like a baby (sleep well) Just because there in a demand like there is doesn't make it right. There are laws against gouging during a disaster....hope you get "tagged"
If you're CONTENT with paying $6.75 a bag, guess what the going price is going to be next fall! 'What will the market bear?'$6.30 a bag isn't gouging at all when you consider the cost of getting the product from the manufacturer to the dealer. Ive been paying between $5.50 to $6.75 a bag and Im content with staying warm at that price. Ive got a place down the street thats trying to get $8.75-$9.00 a bag. Now THAT is gouging!
