Hi everyone,

Replacing an old Osburn insert from the early 80's. We are looking at the Ironstrike Montlake 230. The "air boost" on the Ironstrike concerns me a bit. I do not like the idea of not having full air control after each time you open the door. I have also never experienced it for myself, so it might be no big deal. Sounds like it is 20-30 minutes of boosted air intake each time to add wood. Any Ironstrike owners have any input?

Thank you!

Hi there, I know this post is more than six months too late, but it might help somebody else considering an Ironstrike. Yes, the "air boost" is a little bit of an issue. I love the stove, but having it run "wide open" for half an hour every time you open the stove door means that it burns through a lot more wood much faster. I have a rep coming to hopefully disable the timer (they say it can be done), but even then, the fact that I don't believe you can ever choke off ALL the air is something that worries me. Otherwise it seems to be a good stove. Heats my large, high-ceilinged, drafty, 1970s living room to 74 degrees easily. My only little gripe is that the left side of the window is dirty all the time, but that may possibly be my wood, which might not be as dry as the seller promised. I would welcome any other observations about the stove, should there be any other owners here.
