Does anyone have any info on the K factor of, say, an inch of wood ash? I've googled it and found nothing.

I have it somewhere--I'll find it and send it to you.

I run a small international non-profit org and we build a lot of Rocket Stoves for the communities we help. Wood ash is one of our most used insulating materials for the Rocket Stove combustion chamber, along with perlite, vermiculite, and pumice. As long as it's dry (and stays dry) it's a great insulator. We usually have people collect it for us, and then sift it clean using fiberglass window screen.

Thanks NP, much appreciated.

I've read about the work with Rocket Stoves in Africa and it's a great cause.
