Sell enough to pay for the splitter and then enjoy the use of it the rest of your life. For some reason, I could never bring myself to sell one split that I did by hand. Probably because I always had a pile that had to be split and was never far enough ahead to part with any. The splitter changed that.

There you go! Just for grins and giggles look up some of the splitters on youtube. Some are scary but there are others I would admire to have. Mine is 20 ton Vert/Horiz but slow. Once again though it is quicker than a maul when the rounds are twisted and gnarly and200+ lbs. Wish you the best for your birthday.

Liking the Speeco 22ton from the farm store, they had an MTD 25ton at Menards, they are pretty close in price, but I think I like the construction of the Speeco better. I need to do some more searches on the forum, I know it's been covered, I just never paid too much attention because I wasn't looking for one!

When I decided to burn wood I bought a few things. A decent saw, a big trailer to haul wood, a splitter and a stove. The only wood I've ever split by hand is the wood I've wanted to and I'll tell you it isn't that much!

I am 56 and still splitting by hand. The white oak I recently cut down has been really tough, and I broke my hand in May so I have been putting it off for awhile being sure it is back to full strength. I am going to put off the hydaulics as long as I can for splitting is my only real work out routine. I do not split alot of pine and did find it a real pain, the one thing I can tell you Danno is if you can wait for winter to split it it becomes alot easier. Something about it freezing, I was shocked how easy it was in the winter. Like Wood Stover I am a golfer, maybe that has something to do with it.

Just because I have a splitter doesn't mean the maul is retired....it still sees its fair share.

I fell into buying my splitter, asked my tree guy if he had any wood for my first year, he said yes but needs to be split. So I go over and look at the rounds , he says he has a splitter but the engine is bad .Now Im more interested in the splitter than the wood and say what you doing with it?Well since it needs an engine he will sell it for 100 bucks -will you be home tommorow I ask ? So go get the splitter the next day and had it running in just under 2 hours -the best 100 bucks ever spent -on my 6 th year burning and still runs great.Its a 1964 machinaw 3.5 hp honda Keep looking you may find a deal like I did!

Well, disassembled the valve pieces in question, sanded a small area of rust, lubed it all up, smacked it back together and refilled with hydraulic fluid. I'm back in business. DARNIT! I haven't tried to split these things with it yet, so maybe it will fail miserably and then I can be back to thinking about the new one again.

Also, I need to modify my signature because I know which electric splitter I have now. Never was sure because names and in for were all worn off. Now the Menards near me is carrying a different electric model which is clearly identical to mine.

Darnit. A round that I spent a good ten minutes on wIth my masul was just split in a couple of minutes on my electric splitter. I suppose it's like when I open the jar of pickles and my wife claims she loosened it for me...

And that's how my splitter came home, lol. The threats stopped abruptly after the first season of free heat and 75+ degrees in the house. Girl loves her heat. Turns out she loves running the splitter too!
